Extremely variable bp

Any advice please! Following OHS for mitral valve repair (2 months ago) I'm feeling great. I finish taking warfarin next week, no other medication. Everything is great... except my bp. It can vary from 100/ 70 at 8am to 140/100 an hour later. I can see no reason, perhaps after rest it is mega high, then after exercise mega low. Other times it's the other way round. Sometimes whilst sitting within 10 minutes I take my bp a few times and it goes up and down by 15 ! Should this worry me? The doctors I've mentioned it to say constant high pressure is dangerous, but mine isn't constant. Then I read three consecutive readings of diastolic over 100 are very serious..... Any recommendations or experience please?

AFAIK BP is lower in the morning and night, and as you say is affected by activity etc. Mine can be around 100/70 first thing in the morning and then can be around 115-20/80 an hour or two later. I'm not sure if an increase is 40 is normal but small fluctuations are I think very normal. It doesn't sound like something to worry about but not an expert. But I would try to make sure you are consistent with how you do your readings eg not one time after sitting down for a while and another just after walking up/down some stairs

as Baltibob says. Always take your pressure when you’ve been sitting down quietly for at least ten minutes. With the monitor on your arm. Close your eyes, take three SLOW breaths and start the machine. No talking, and if the reading is a bit high take two more and write down the average of the second and third - discard the first.

Thanks very much. In general that is the procedure I follow, but the differences are still pretty big. I can just be sitting reading or watching TV and it can alter drastically in thirty minutes. My husband and I can do exactly the same things, and his bp (diastolic and systolic) may vary by 5, whilst mine can very by 30+!!
