You are one of the fortunate ones, I've been on one blood thinner after another for 13yrs. Everyone has different heart conditions, you need to trust your doctor that aspirin is enough to manage your health. Take care. Moni

I asked my dr this as I have just come off it after a year - she said there was no evidence that any longer use provided any extra benefit.

I think that’s standard. Ticagrelor for a year and then aspirin for life. You’ll find much less bruising!😊

The bruising arghhh . I got to my time to come off them and had the joys of my 3rd HA 😬 So back on it for another 12 months 🤦‍♀️

It's standard treatment to take both for a year then drop the ticagrelor after a heart attack. I asked my G P if I could drop the aspirin instead as it played havoc with my stomach but he said they prefer to use aspirin long term because the possible side effects are better known and easier to treat.

I take enteric coated aspirin. Dissolves in the intestine, apparently. Doesn’t affect the stomach. When I had my heart attack and they wanted to give me 300mg aspirin, I told them I have chronic gastritis (this is true) and made them give me a suppository. So there are ways around the stomach issues if they’ll listen.

My understanding of the very same question when my 1st year was up was that the Ticagrelor is used to protect the stent from clots until the stent was fully incorporated into the walls of the artery, this is normally achieved well within the 1 year mark, I've heard of people being on only for 6 months.

I had to change from ticagrelor to clopidogrel. TIcag made me feel as if I had asthma and couldn't take a deep breath. The clopidogrel upset my stomach badly and was stopped after 6 months.
