I have a damaged mitral valve with stenosis and regurgitation ( caused by Rheumatic fever as a child) Started getting symptoms 8 years ago and gradually I have deteriorated. My last echo in March showed the stenosis had got worse. I was told they wanted to try a Valvuplasty repair before the OH valve replacement. I was so pleased something was going to be done ! The surgeon called me on Thursday to discuss and said the waiting list would be 5 months. I said to him that I couldn't wait that long. My quality of life is so restricted.
Imagine my surprise when his secretary called me back the same day to tell me I'm booked in for 21st June for the repair! If the repair fails? Then it will be OH for the valve replacement. Either way I'm ecstatic!!
I'm very optimistic about getting my quality of life back.
I just wanted to share my good news π

lovely news. The waiting is the worst. I had my mitral valve repair 16 weeks ago. Iβm back at work, walked my first 5 miles last weekend and feeling very hopeful! Xx
Well done ! I can't wait! I lost my beloved German Shepherd 5 years ago to Cancer at the same time I was fighting Womb Cancer and Breast Cancer. Losing her nearly broke me. Once I've recovered from the Op and all is well. I'm looking forward to getting a German Shepherd pup to get back out walking and getting my life back with a big fluffball by my side.
Thank you. I honestly can't wait. To be able to walk more than 30 steps without feeling like I'm suffocating shall be amazing!I hope your recovery is going well !
Fantastic news and a very unusual result from your consultant! The benefits of the operation to resolve these issues are so high in quality of life improvements that I was totally surprised post my OHS. Onward and upward π
I wasn't expecting that turnaround response from my Surgeon. Within 4 hrs I went from 5 months to a month. The surgeon is not my cardiologist but my cardiologist said the Surgeon gets to decide who is priority. I feel very lucky to have been pushed up the waiting list. Back flips here I come , which will be amazing as I couldn't do them pre surgery πKiki π«Άπ½
Good morning Kiki 54. I am so pleased you are going to get your operation soon and hope everything goes well π. You have certainly had more than your share of illnesses. Brian
Thank you, Brian. I wind my siblings up ( I'm the youngest of 5) I say my parents must have ran out of health genes with me but I got the good looking gene ππ Never fails to get a rise out of them ! Thankfully, I still have my sense of humour .
Just wanted to wish you all the very best for your surgery. So pleased your wait has been reduced. I'm not at the surgery stage myself yet but I too have a damaged mitral valve from childhood rheumatic fever.
Won't be long hopefully till you will be able to walk that new German shepherd pup!
SuperFluff, Thank you ! I don't even remember having Rheumatic Fever as a child. Nothing is documented on my health records . I'm sure I'll spam you all with pup pictures when the time comes.
Thank you. Thankfully, I'm good at standing my ground. Fiesty Scots/Spanish Genes ! Whatever I said obviously worked. It might have been because I complimented him on his lovely Irish accent π
