Hi, I see you are new to the forum. You haven't given any background, age etc so it is difficult to respond other than share experience. Following a routine health check sinus rhythm ( normal) bradycardia (slow heart rate HR) was found using a 24hr Holter monitor (ECG) with ectopics beats. 8years ago when aged 64. This was described as not unusual and apart from being overweight /obese (BMI moving around 30) I had no other co-morbidities. I'm now 8 years older and overweight but below obese now and have no other co-morbidities. BUT I have had a couple of serious cardiovascular events. Read bio if you want to see the detail but not necessary and probably irrelevant.

As part of the latest intervention I have an implanted pacing defibrillator. The main purpose is to prevent a sudden cardiac arrest but also could pace my heart to raise my resting heart rate. This is normally around 40 bpm and they set it at 60bpm. When this was put in in March there were problems so it's been re done 3 weeks ago. The artificial imposed 60 bpm was part of the problem so this has effectively been switched off.

The point of explaining this is that I can live comfortably with the bradycardia, I have done all my life, most of it in ignorance!! This is not to say that in the course of knowing more about how the heart works in our body systems bradycardia might have some significance. BUT in current knowledge it is not generally significant in the majority causes of any type of heart disease which can more closely be associated with co-morbidities such as weight, diet, diabetes, exercise etc. Regarding the cardiovascular system, in spite of the amazing advances in medicine , the unknowns are probably more than the knowns!

Hi, I've never been described as an anxious person but matters and f the heart do have that affect! It's good news no AF has been detected. If you exercise a lot and don't have co-morbidities then bradycardia can be a sign of a strong heart. Ectopics and what feels like missed beats are associated with bradycardia too, it can be consequential. There are many references to this on BHF and in previous posts which you can search. Lots of people recommend breathing exercises these days more often associated with tachycardia though I find positively focusing on breathing is helpful.
