Been a while since I’ve been on but as I saw my consultant yesterday I thought I’d give an update.
The valve is working perfectly he said but I’ve had problems with horrendous leg ache and weight gain despite exercising and dieting. After researching the drugs I’m on, he agreed for me to come off Bisoprolol as it can cause both problems, in fact he acted as if he didn’t know why I was on it in the first place.
I knew the valve was working and after what the surgeon did for me I vowed not to abuse what he had done, no I did not resume smoking- that’s gone.
So basically I’m not where I want to be fitness wise but as my valve is ok it’s making me more determined.
i just wanted to say to anyone out there who is worried about the surgery, I have COPD and very very much overweight, but they did it. What they can do today is amazing.

Good to hear from you and that all is good & well with your new valve. Congrats with quitting the smoking too. Hopefully stopping the bisoprolol will also help with your weight.Well done you and keep on keeping on ❤️🩹 😊
Hi there, I posted this on another thread but it may be relevant here too. I’ve been restricting fats and calories in my diet for years and have really struggled to get my weight under 85kg. Recently I went on a course to help me control my type 2 diabetes and was told to restrict carbohydrates only. This graph shows my weight over the last 12 months. The last 3 months is when I started restricting carbs.
Great to hear from you HighburyTed glad you are doing well and operation was a success. Stopping smoking ….well done now you can try to get going with the weight which I know isn’t easy . Good luck going forward
Glad you are doing well. And the valve working well. Hope being taken off the drug your weight will go down and with the exercise you will feel better in yourself.
It is good to hear from you and to know that your operation was a success! It is wonderful news that your valve is working well and that you have quit smoking. Good job on that!
Try to keep giving it your best for the weight and exercise. Many of us likely struggle with that, but don’t give up. You sound determined so you can do this!
