Hello a quick question. I recently had mitral valve repair. I often get episodes of skipped beats and higher beats per minute. I just had 95 beats per minute with blurry vision, sweating and dry lips. After a bit it went down to 84 beats per minute. My question is if it is normal to have a heart rate that is most of the time between 80-95 at rest and experience often skipped heart beats? Thank you.
Heart rate: Hello a quick question. I... - British Heart Fou...
Heart rate
It's not uncommon after a surgery as some of your electrical pathways have been disrupted. As long as your HR is under 100 at rest and your skipped beats are less than 10% of your burden, it's not a big concern, however weird it might feel. I still get a lot of skipped beats (a dozen to a hundred a day) 10 months after OHS and my cardiologist doesn't seem concerned.
Yeah I think it is for some people myself included my resting heart rate is like 85 to 90 most times and I haven't had surgery yet. But if this isnt normal for you then maybe go to your GP and see what they advice x
Good morning....if you have recently had valve surgery I would say just give the cardiac nurse or the cardiac unit where you had your operation a call just to check. I was told after my double valve repair that if I had any issues to just give them a call. It can take a while for the heart to settle but equally, after your operation you need to just check, especially if you are feeling dizzy and feel like you have missed heart beats. There's always the BHF nurses as well that you can call. Personally, if I didn't know for sure what was causing it so recently after surgery I would give a call for reassurance or advice. Xx
Hello thank you for your reply. I will give them a call this coming week just to put my mind at ease.
although I’d always ask the cardiac nurse, my heart rate is bonkers after my mitral valve repair. I did ask her as it was constantly between 100-116 at rest. They changed my meds and now it is generally 85-91 at rest. She did say that heart rate after mitral valve repair is notoriously unreliable. When I’m exercising my heart rate does not follow the increase at high impact and decrease at low impact. It just does its own thing. Again, check for your own circumstances but that is my experience.
