Cholesterol levels.

Hello everyone. Can anyone tell me what our ideal cholesterol levels should be after having a HA followed by a triple bypass op.The good, the bad, and the ugly. I mean the total 😀. Also triglycerides.

I can see my GP notes but find them a bit confusing, and the same when I Google. I can see what they are, but not what they should be. If that makes sense. Many thanks.

Harefield seem almost entirely concerned by LDL levels which need to be below 1.8 they tell me.

Thanks for your reply NannyPat. I've responded to DWizzas reply to avoid repeating myself. Thanks again

Hi Fastbike , I recently delved into the murky waters of statins and cholesterol levels as I believed my statin was giving me some nasty side effects. Waiting on my most recent cholesterol test results (was off a statin for a month ) to see if I need to go back on a low dose 3rd statin. I contacted the BHF on line chat nurse and was given some info on the BHF website that included

“If you are getting secondary prevention treatment for your heart condition, you may have different LDL-cholesterol and non-HDL cholesterol levels to aim for. The guidelines say you should aim for :

LDL cholesterol level of 2.0mmol or less.

Non-HDL cholesterol level of 2.6mmol or less. “

If you use the search bar facility on this forum you’ll find quite a few previous posts about statins/cholesterol.

My situation came from Nstemi heart attack and quadruple bypass last July , doing really well except the statin issue 🤦🏼🤣..

Thanks for your reply DWizza and NannyPat. My levels seem to fall in place with the figures you both gave meMy LDL is1.09 , HDL 1.37, and non-HDL 1.4

So that seems okay. Next thing to keep an eye on will be sugar levels. I take 80mg Atorvastatin and I read that some people can become pre diabetic. It's a bit of a worry taking these medications, I think we have to ask for regular tests to pick up on things before they go too far. Thanks again both of you, that's one less worry.

Thanks for your reply I think these figures are for people with no heart issues. I think our recommended figures are lower than these

The NHS figures are targets. If you can improve on them so much the better. Otherwise I have never come across any alternative cholesterol targets for those with heart issues. But have heard it mentioned before as you say, but it would be useful to know what they are.
