Vomiting blood following Drug Infused Balloon

Hi, I had my 3rd Angiogram last Thursday, They couldn't stent as my LAD artery is narrow as well as calcified. A drug infused balloon was used to dilate the artery (marginally), a few few hours later I became very unwell and vomited partially digested blood and fresh blood. I was discharged the next morning and became unwell again at lunchtime. Today, 3 days later I feel better, not brilliant. No one could come up with why? Due to my background I searched for an answer and found that one of the drugs infused is cytotoxic and it makes sense that this might be responsible for irritating my stomach lining however not entirely convinced. Anyone else experienced such a reaction following the insertion of drug infused balloon?

Have a good day.

Hi diorama,

sounds terrible and feel for you but the BIG question that is ringing in my head is you vomited blood, no ons knows why and you were discharged?

You're not feeling well now, I really do think you should phone 111 and tell them all this.

It sounds so wrong discharging someone who vomiting blood, not feeling well.

I hope you get this sorted out and recover well.

Hi dietama, I agree with what baly_2023 has has said. I'm shocked they discharged you but then again also not surprised with some of the things I've seen. However definitely ring 111 or 999 if you're still not right, I've never heard of this happening before so at the very least see your gp at soonest opportunity please. How are you doing now?

Morning, feeling much better, just wiped out. I have done some reading and one of the drugs infused in the balloons is cytotoxic (chemotherapy drugs) and may just have wiped out some stomach lining . Yes, I agree surprised they could give no suggestion as to why? I have always been rather sensitive to most medications. I have also been told I have very low flow in LAD following the angiogram ( Coronary Slow Flow). It appears that CSF can precede arteriosclerosis hence angina pain. All very interesting and sharing on the forum just in case.

Thank you, have a good day.

Prof John Beltrame has researched coronary slow flow for many years along with vasomotor disorders such as microvascular dysfunction and vasospastic angina.

Here's some research from a team at Kings also actively researching angina no obstructive coronary arteries ANOCA.

Glad you are feeling a bit better. I'm just surprised as never heard of what you described. Are you on medication now like aspirin, clopidogrel, and maybe something for your stomach like lansaprazole?I would personally still a gp to discuss what happened and how you are now too. :-)
