LDL Levels
The NHS says this:
"What is a good target level for you depends on things like you age, whether you have any health conditions and your risk of cardiovascular disease.
total cholesterol: below 5mmol/l
HDL above 1.0 for men, 1.2 women
non-HDL : below 4 mmol/l"
you can find out more information from the website of Heart UK.
Below 3.0 but for people with heart disease, they want it lower than that.
harefield say post H A LDL needs to be below 1.8
Hi, I recently asked a similar question as I thought my readings were really good , turns out that they are “normal” because like most of us on this platform I’m on secondary treatment.
According to BHF (I spoke to a nurse) the goals for cholesterol may change if you are on secondary treatment such as statins .
“If you are getting secondary prevention treatment for your heart condition, you may have different LDL-cholesterol and non-HDL cholesterol levels to aim for. The guidelines say you should aim for :
LDL cholesterol level of 2.0mmol or less.
Non-HDL cholesterol level of 2.6mmol or less. “
I've never fully understood why short of a genetic abnormality, why an LDL level would be anything other than what your body thinks it should be for your own set of circumstances at the time.
