Vomiting after meds

I have a tummy upset today and just vomited (not significantly) about an hour after taking my meds with some porridge.I'm assuming the lapse of an hour (and small amount of watery vonit.. excuse the description) will mean I shouldn't worry about taking my meds again.

I don't want to but thought I'd check if anyone has experienced this.

Hello :-)

As far as I am aware as this is just a one of you should not take your meds again

If you were sick on a regular basis then you would have to ask your Doctor for advice

I hope you feel better soon :-) x

Yes thank you. I rang the Cardiac Nurse and they said I should be fine. It's not my heart meds. Unfortunately I suffer from IBS too and its a flare up.

I don't usually have breakfast when I feel bad but I had to with taking meds with food. I wasn't sick for an hour so they say it's OK.

Hello :-)

I suffer with IBS to and since been on my cocktail of meds it has been all over the place

I do not like breakfast was something you could never get me to eat but now I have to have a little bit to be able to take my meds in a Morning

I am glad you got reassurance from the Rehab Nurses and hope your flare up settles down :-) x

for future reference you might wan to check with a pharmacist whether the meds need to be takes with a full meal or just something light to act as protection for your gut

also ask about how important the timing is - many meds prescribed for the morning can be taken at any time of day (to suit you and meals), but may be more effective if taken at the same sort of time daily - but it's hard to put al that on a prescription slip!

Thank you. I was advised by the Pharmacist to take with/after breakfast as I was suffering nausea when I hadn't eaten.

It's not usually a problem but when I get an ibs flare up it can be. I took them with dry toast this morning and it was ok. Thanks again.

HiSorry to hear of your problem. Hopefully it is a one off and not a medication reaction.

As a rule of thumb, if you have taken meds and then vomit you must not take your meds for a second time as there is no knowing how much your body has already absorbed.

Clearly, if medical advice is at hand and contradicts the rule of thumb then follow the medics advice

Thank you. I phoned the hospital and they said not to take again as it had been approximately an hour. It wasn't a reaction to the medication. It was an ibs flare up.

It's been my experience, and I stress that it is only my experience, that on occasions when I have vomited due to meds I have started to feel sick within about 20 mins, and have been violently sick within 40 mins. It's horrible, and continues until my body has rid itself of the offending substance

Thank you. It wasn't a reaction to the medication. It was an ibs flare up. I didn't have a problem this morning.

I'm the opposite I usually get nausea if I don't take with food. It was just unfortunate that the ibs occurred. Thanks again.
