Hi,

I'm new to the group.

I had an nstemi heart attack December 29th, stuck in hospital ever since waiting a bypass.

My op was due yesterday, however was cancelled last minute due to an emergency.

I've been told they are looking at 29th January as a new date. I am going crazy stuck here with my thoughts, my family are over 2 hours away. My mental health is really suffering.

So there we have it!!

Hello :-)

I am so sorry to hear about your heart attack and been stuck in Hospital now waiting for your Bypass I can only imagine what you must be feeling regarding been stuck in there and family and friends been so far away

Expecting to get the operation done and at the last minute been cancelled must have only added even more stress to the situation even though this does happen emergencies can come in and so our operations get cancelled

They must feel it is not safe to go home and wait so you are at this moment in the right place however as it is affecting your mental health you need to talk to the Doctors and Nurses about this and make them listen as yes your heart is important but protecting your Mental Health is just as important to

They do have support in Hospital you need to let them know you need it and not coping if you have already told them tell them again

Let us know how you get on :-) x

It is ludicrous to me that you have to remain in hospital for another two weeks due to your postponement. Not only is that very stressful for you but you are effectively bed blocking through no fault of your own, and that can't be right. We had a post on here the other day which turned into a side debate on how poorly the NHS manages its resources and this is the perfect example of that. I can only suggest you talk to them and ask if they can bring your surgery date forward, tell them you are not happy and could they slot you in should a cancellation occur. I don't know whether this is the sort of issue where the hospital PALS team can get involved to apply a bit of pressure on your behalf, but it might be worth asking. Otherwise I hope you can get sorted earlier and it eventually works out for you.

Thank you guys.

Apparently if I go home I go back to an 8 week minimum waiting list.

If I stay here apparently I'm provisionally booked in for Jan 29th , and of course my mental health continues to deteriorate.
