Hi I have joined this community to hopefully be more informed of my condition. I am really going into this whole thing blind. I never thought in a million years that I would have to live with a defective heart! The party of life is on hold for the moment ! :(

My initial diagnosis is Afib and SVT ( had to google both) and I am due an appointment with a specialist in November after I get an echo and a CT scan done. There is talk of a ‘wee op’ but it’s only 2 weeks into this journey. I am 51 and have a lot of life to live but I have so many questions to ask about all of this. I know I don’t particularly want to experience my heart rate at 250bpm for hours again. It was a terrifying experience and I really did think it was the end.

I am hoping through this community site I will be more positive for the future. Thank you for letting me join :)

Hi and welcome, "heart rate at 250bpm for hours again" how did it slow down? meds or dc cardioversion? The little op i'm guessing would be an abalation. Can you remember if there was a trigger to the AF, were you doing anything different the previous 12/24 hrs. As thatwasunexpected has said AF/SVT is very manageable and usually has a good prognosis. HR was 250 for around 3 hours and once I got into hospital they gave me meds to slow it down but it took 26 hours of fast Afib for it to just slow all of a sudden. They were going to shock me if it didn’t slow down but there was something about me having asthma that was stopping them.

I had a drink the night before, woke up early after not much sleep and had a coffee with a boiled egg then all of a sudden it started and wouldn’t stop. Nearly passed out a few times then phoned an ambulance. Very scary 😱

Hi Stardust. Just to welcome you to a Forum that has been very helpful to me, and I’m sure it will, to you. It’s such a shock, isn’t it? Not the kind of news to expect.

But as thatwasunexpected says it can prompt some amazing changes to lifestyle etc.

It sounds like you are getting some good medical attention, so I hope these first stages go smoothly for you.

Hiya, welcome to the Hearties (the club you probably never thought you'd be joining)!

Have you seen these free BHF publications:

bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...

bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...

As for Doctor Google, he can be quite the snake oil salesman, very scary depending on which link you choose - if you continue using Google, aim for links from credible sources like the BHF and NHS, and the US ones like the Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic, and the American Heart Foundation.

I believe there are also Facebook groups on your specific conditions you may find helpful if you use Facebook.

Again, welcome to the Hearties - you'll find lots of good company here!

That is very encouraging as I was about to restart exercising on the Monday but was in the hospital from the Sunday! I’m hoping I can get back to it once I’m sorted 👍
