Reducing atorvastatin?

Hi there, Following echostress test I was put on 20mg Atorvastain, and Bisoprolol. The Bisoprolol really working well, they have reduced heart symptoms really well. Trouble is the Atorvastatin, I get night sweats, insomnia, feel a bit low, sluggish, and downbeat. Still going for walks etc. So 20mg is the lowest for Atorvastatin. I would like to reduce it. Should I break them in half - to take 10mg daily, or take one every other day?

Hello :-)

I personally would talk with your Doctor about what to do hey may put you on a different one or even say you don't need it but it really needs them to advise you :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Thank you, I tried Simvastatin years ago, and that gave me muscle weakness, so was taken off it, but now after my heart event and tests, I was hoping Atorva would work. You're right, I will get back to the doctor, and will post the outcome. This forum is really great, I don't feel alone with my worries!

Best to discuss with your doctor as advised. Bisoprolol can make you feel tired and a bit sluggish when you first start.

Hi I would speak to your Dr as I am on 20mg Atorvastatin and I tried 30mg once which was a 20mg and a 10mg tablet so they did do a 10mg. I went back to 20mg as I couldn’t get to sleep at night.

There are 5 different statins according to the NHS website nhs.uk/conditions/statins/I have changed once and seems to work for me. Ask you GP to try the others, but give each one a bit of time for your body to adjust. My reading says that statins are the most important drug in the cocktail, but others may not agree.

Hi - I agree with others who suggest talking to your dr. I am now on Rosuvastatin- only taking 5mg every third day ( as reduced my ldl dramatically at that dose) but I think it’s making my anxiety a lot worse and I also have night sweats. When (?!) I can get a dr appointment I will ask for something else. In the meantime I’m going to stop them for a few days and see if my awful current depression and anxious feelings subside.

Agree with others that best to ask GP to try a different statin. It takes time to tweak the medication and get it right. I changed to Pravastatin which has one of the lowest side effects.

Actually I found the bisopropol was problematic. I initially couldn't sleep, had terrible cramping, had to reduce dosage and even then still had the cramping though less frequently. Consultant took me off completely. I had previously been on Nebivolol which also caused cramping less so but new cardiologist switch to bisopropol. It seems I generally have a problem with beta blockers. I have been on Astovastatin for years and had no side effects whatsoever.

Talk to your gP and get them changed. I hated atorvastatin. No problems at all with simvastatin.

I got the same symptoms but stuck with it and now all seems to be fine and settled down. I am in 80mg. I would just try and ride it out and it might not be the statin it could be the other drug as I take that also.
