Atorvastatin is taken overnight but does it matter to much if I take it 2 or 3 hours before bedtime?

I take mine in the evening a couple of hours before bed with no issues. I was just told to take it in the evening so that I wasn't taking it in the morning with other medications it adversely reacted with, I wasn't told it has to be specifically just before I went to bed.

No it doesn't. It is the one statin you can take anytime as long as it is at the same time every day or, like the Judge, you know it reacts with something else you take. (Pauses while everyone shouts "she's so wrong").

Check it out:

nhs.uk/medicines/atorvastatin/

or the quick version:

Take atorvastatin once a day. You can choose to take it at any time, as long as you stick to the same time every day.

Sometimes doctors may recommend taking it in the evening. This is because your body makes most cholesterol at night. If you're not sure when to take your medicine, ask a pharmacist or your doctor for advice.

Atorvastatin doesn't upset the stomach, so you can take it with or without food.

Swallow atorvastatin tablets whole with a glass of water. If you've been given chewable tablets, you can chew them or swallow them whole with a glass of water.

I've been taking mine every morning with other pills for over 2 years as per cardiologist's instructions. However, whenever I have been in hospital they have given them out at night.....

I take mine just before bedtime, (plus or minus an hour)...creature of habit.

No not at all.

No. Atorvastatin has a long half life, longer say than Simvastatin, so can actually be taken in the morning if needs must. I’m a pharmacist so I hope that’s helpful.

I started by taking Atorvastatin after lunch but changed to about one hour before bed having read that some doctors recommend that because the body makes most cholesterol whilst asleep. I had no problems either way.

I was advised to take it when going to bed but I wanted to free that time to take another med I’m prescribed, as that is the most convenient time to take it. Fortunately, all the answers helped me decide I can bring the atorvastatin forward a couple of hours and take my other med when going to bed.

Nurse at hospital told me to take it at night, but pharmacist says, as others have, that it can be taken any time of day. Originally I was taking ticagrelor which was twice daily, so I took the Atorvastatin in the evening anyway. When I came off the ticagrelor, I changed so I only have to take meds once a day - incredibly freeing, as is the bad bruising I got with the ticagrelor.

By the way, I use the alarm on my Fitbit (other fitness tracker are available!) to remind me to take the pills so it's not constantly on my mind.
