Loss of appetite and taste after heart valve surgery
I haven't, but know of many others that had this problem. It did pass eventually though 😊
Good morning
I had an AVR 5 years ago this week. The loss of taste afterwards was pretty awful but passed eventually. I could do with a loss of appetite for a week or two now 😅
Hey, yeah this was me days after surgery. I was just eating for the sake of eating because I knew it would build up the strength I need. Don’t force it, just eat whatever you can but do surely eat. Your appetite and taste does come back. 😀
I had more of a change of taste. Found myself eating more of things I didn’t eat so much before. Some other foods I liked tasted “strange “. After a few months I was pretty much back to ‘normal’.
Yes; loss of taste and appetite after TAVI ( valve replacement ) Uncertain how much of this is due to medication - in my case heavy Warfarin and Fusenomide. Would be very glad to have other's comments.
Warm regards

I think because it only lasts for a few days for most people, it is more likely to be caused by very strong pain killers such as Morphine and Tramadol. I've been on a heavy dose (13mg) of warfarin since my valve replacement 10 years ago, but my taste came back to normal within a week, so I don't think it is caused by the drugs that you will be on long term.
Yes I had aortic replaced and same but it will eventually come back
Apparently it is quite normal in the first two or three days after the operation. A change in taste can be for a week or so.
I certainly struggled to eat much for a couple of days and my sense of taste took about 10 days to return to normal after surgery. I understand it is something to do with the anaesthetic.
in addition to the suggestions above i wonder if you had oral antibiotics as part of your medication?
these can upset your gut flora (microbiome), so it's helpful to check out ways of giving that a boost after antibiotic treament
