Would like to hear from anyone with heart failure who has been admitted to hospital for fluid retention. What happened and what was the experience like?

Heart failure is a vague term that encompasses many conditions. Any inefficiency of heart function can cause fluid retention. I was blue-lighted to hospital with severe chest pains, and spent several hours calling for a commode after being given furosemide. Unpleasant, but ok by the next day.

I was diagnosed with severe heart failure last Oct and my lover body and lungs had totally swollen up with fluid. I was put on a drip of Furosemide to quickly reduce the fluid, then had the tablet form. I lived on the toilet on the ward for days peeing every other minute. The fluid disappears rapidly and lost 9kg of water weight in under 2 weeks.

Hi I wasn’t admitted but I was treated in a&e.

I had my blood pressure taken, chest xray, blood test and ECG. I was then given an iv of furosemide. My blood pressure was taken before sitting and standing. After the iv my blood pressure was taken regularly because the iv lowered it a lot. ECG was regularly taken too. I remember several dashes to the toilet.

After the iv they kept me for about 4 hours. Once my blood pressure raised to a good level I was released and a referral was made for me to see my cardiologist.
