I’ve had heart probs for 6 years now. Had OHS for new valves, got a pacemaker. Am on Flecanide was once a day but now twice due to me going into hospital again last week with very high hr and Afib. Had cardioversion and am back in sinus. Cardiologist wants me to start taking the above drug which I’m hesitant to use as my normal hr is between 67-72 so the new drug wld drop me lower. Plus there are a lot of contradictions with other meds I’m on. Plus I can’t drink on it! I’ve asked if now that I’ve upped the additional flecanide to allow me to see how it goes and obviously if it doesn’t help then to have to start the new drug.
My question is is anyone else on this and how r they on it please?

I have been taking Verapamil 120mg twice a day for almost 2 years now. It can cause bradycardia which is a low heart rate, but for me this was only very temporary. I now only get the occasional low spikes that bring my heart rate into the 40’s. I can’t say currently, that the medication is contributing to this as it could be other factors. However, I have not experienced any major problems on it as far as side effects go. In terms of drinking alcohol whilst on Verapamil, I am a non-drinker so I couldn’t advise if the medication interacts with this. Overall, no major side effects.
I have been on verapamil 40mg x2 a day for two years. The only thing to avoid is pink grapefruit juice apparently it stops medication working. And when I first started I got the worst migraines I've ever had!. My resting heart rate is 98 so this helps lower it to like 60 or 70 something, sometimes still high even on the medication. Apparently it lowers your blood pressure aswell so I've had alot of dizzy and near faint episodes but no palpitations which is the main point of me being on it for my ventricular Tachycardia x hope this medication works for you.
pharmacists are the people with good knowledge of medicines and inter-reactions. You are in the UK so your own GP surgery may be one of those who employ a pharmacist directly (in a group of other practices). To get one, ask the soc’s receptionist
you’re worried that your heart rate will drop below 67-72? My resting HR has returned to 45-50 bpm , it was the same before I had quadruple bypass surgery in July following Nstemi heart attack. What’s the issue if your HR goes lower ? I’m on bisoprolol 2.5mg , pantaprazole, artovastatin, clopidogrel at the moment. Consultant says to go on to Rampiril and stop the bisoprolol at some point .
I’m not unduly worried if my hr drops as I have a pacemaker set at 60 so it will kick in if dropped to that. I’m allergic to Bisoprolol. I’ve got 2 new valves in January. I’m permanent Afib. I’ve had heart ops and probs for years. My main worry is that this drug has contradictions with a few of my other drugs. My question was asking people how they have found being on this drug. Thank you for your reply!
Ah , I get it now . Thanks for educating me . I’m finding my way round all the meds and potential contra inter actions . It’s a real quest to find all these things out Sally . Bisoprolol at 3.75mg kept making me feel spaced me out , hoping to get off it and into Rampiril soon. Wishing you well. ,
