Hello. I have been having issues with my heart recently and just looking at my notes following an ultrasound. It says ‘structurally normal with preserved LV function’. Does anybody know what this means please?

Im not a doctor but I think it means heart is normal, but I must admit I have seen this alot on my hospital letters preserved lV function so I'm not sure either to be honest maybe ask your doctor what it means.

it means that your Left Ventricle (LV) is working within normal limits and its level of functioning has not been reduced - during the ultrasound they take measurements while your heart is pumping - these measurements show how efficiently the main heart chambers are pumping - this is measured as your Ejection Fraction (EF) so LVEF is Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction - the normal range for thhis is 50-70%they can also measure the thickness of your heart muscle and check for signs sof any unusual sructural issues and damage to the valves

fishonabike is so right in his explanation to you as I have preserved LV function since my HA a year ago.

Hi you mentioned looking at your notes, do you mean reading a report sent to you after your ultrasound (echocardiogram?) I think A cardiologist or doctor needs to explain it to you so that you have a understanding of whether your heart is healthy or not.

Thank you, not due to see the cardiologist for another couple of weeks but hopefully not too urgent!
