Adverse effects of Resolor

On June 5, I had a supraventricular tachycardia which caused my heart to beat 140/minute. My rapid heart beat was later stabilised at an emergency department of a nearby hospital.

From my my research I have discovered that the trigger of the adverse event was the medicine called Resolor (prucalopride). The med was prescribed to me by a gastroenterologist for my chronic constipation.

I have stopped taking Resolor, but now I have been having anxiety that I might have a recurrence of supraventricular tachycardia.

I need advice on how to cope with this kind of anxiety. I also would like to suggest that Resolor be reviewed on its safety for long term use.

Thank you.

I would ask your doctor for some beta blockers, for emergency, and to ease your anxiety, then if your SVT ever comes back you know you have some beta blockers in your handbag/wallet. Personal opinion would be atenolol, its cardioselective, of course there are a whole range of Beta blockers out there.

Don't forget your heart would beat at 140 during moderate-intensive exercise, so your heart should be able to beat at 140 for 30 minutes until you get to the hospital, of course I don't know your age or specifics.

Tachycardia is already a known side effect for Resolor.

Many thanks, Bluehope81, for your reply and valuable view and suggestion.

I have been taking Concor 2.5 mg daily since the event. And it’s been helpful. I’m 70.

I didn’t know before that Resolor causes tachycardia. No wonder soon after taking it, my heart rate became 5 to 7 beats faster. Had I known it, I would have rejected my gastroenterologist’s prescription for it. Now I have anxiety that a recurrence of SVT (AVNRT type) might happen to me.

We could say that the anxiety is a perfectly natural response to what happened to you, and it must of been terrifying, so its going to take some time for your brain to process what happened, and get to trust your body again. You know what caused it and have removed that factor, you have your concor meds that will slow your heart, and you know that a heart rate of 140 is okay for short periods of time. You have every avenue covered, Give it some time, for you mind and body to heal, and see how you do, would be good to hear how you are doing in the future
