Severe back pain now to the point where I can not walk 10 steps! Is this entresto sides? Dapagliflozin. Something.severe with kidney?

Or is it just a severe bad back with no specific cause that I can remember.

I have heart failure and on all the meds. This last couple days I have back pain on the low right side of my back digging in at me that spreads over. It's got that severe I am literally a cripple. I struggle to do 5 steps to the bathroom. I have never felt so much pain.

I do wonder if it's something I should

recognise as a side effect of the meds or something. UTI gone wrong from Dapagliflozin or is it entresto as I used to get mild back pain or hip pain from that at times over the years.

Obviously I am ringing 111 today as I need to get this looked at. Normally I would just rest a few days and load up on painkillers and bobs your uncle you start to see improvement but this seems to have got worse and worse as the days go on. The pain is there as dull ache but worse with movement which leads to me thinking slipped disc or muscle strain. Literally look lop sided too! Oh dear. Quality of life already got turned upside down with heart failure after the heart attack, now this is on another level!

So just curious, anyone experience extreme back pain with the usual cocktail of meds? Entresto. Dapa. Eporlenone. Apixban. Furoesmide etc?

Hello reading your symptoms, I could be describing what I'm going through right now. I've had this severe lower back pain that spreads to the left for over a week now. Saw my GP yesterday. She thinks it's muscular and prescribed an ibuprofen based gel plus paracetamol as I can't take strong painkillers in the tablet form due to HF. She's also referred me to a physiotherapist. But I am now wondering if it is one of the HF drugs causing this.I hope you get it sorted out. Keep us updated.

Yes I do wonder if its related to entresto. I know a few others have said they get joint pain from that med but this is pretty severe so not sure.

Can we use ibuprofen gel being heart patients?.

My GP said it's ok as it is used on a localised area, and only used for a few days. Again, they all say different things but I'm going to try it for 3-4 days and see if it makes a difference.

Sorry to hear your in so much pain hope 111 can help you and advise what is best. Maybe given your history they will recommend you go to A&E??

Might be a UTI, prostate infection, kidney stones. Maybe worth getting those tested.

Suspected Apixaban severe lower back here. Started on Rivaroxaban with definite back pain (and mood changes, lack of appetite etc). Swapped to Apixaban, bit better but still debilitating (can’t bend) back pain. Sadly consultant is on the “that’s not possible” page. Working on how to be able to do a trial off it maybe using thrombolytic enzymes instead to check the theory…

So sorry to hear that, fingers crossed for Rivaroxaban for you. Isn’t it fascinating how individual and trial&error medications are. Think one of my main thing now is to not be “fobbed off” with the all too common it’s all in your head attitude, after all we are all individually the experts in our bodies.

Hi

Can't really help with what might be causing it or even what it is but I get back spasms a few times a year and when they initially started I could only go up stairs on all fours and hobble around doubled over. What really helps me is a heat belt from the chemist. It is not a patch you stick on your back but a very comfortable , lightweight belt which fits all sizes. It is a good relief and helps me to keep moving. I do a lot of driving and always wear one as prevention now.

Perhaps it's worth a try until you get a diagnosis and a plan from your gp.

Take care.

* still don't know what is causing it but age , children and falling off horses might be a clue 😄

Before my heart problems had severe back pain as you describe. I was told my back was in spasm and was prescribed diazepam which did the trick. Don’t know if you can take this in combination with all the other heart drugs and heart problems. Really what I’m saying is you probably need to go get it checked out

I'm on Entresto and so far no back pain. Have you been checked for gallstones as I had severe back pain with them when I had them years ago and by golly they hurt..and I walked funny to compensate. Just a thought and hope you're soon feeling brighter xx

Hi. I had to stop my Dapagliflozin after a fortnight because of horrendous pain across the top of my back from one shoulder blade to the other. Cardiologist prescribed Empagliflozin instead, and that doesn’t seem to have any side effects for me. Not that it’s made me feel any better either.

I have lived with severe back pain for 30 years. Don't ever assume that new symptoms are heart or tablet related. Get yourself to Urgent care if you can. It's a good start to ring 111. There are numerous things it could be from kidney pin which is an emergency to a slipped disc, so get it checked out. ASAP.

Every now and again I have that exact same pain you described. I have heart failure also and we’re on roughly the same type tablets with different names some of them, but I’m on entresto and dapagliflozin.

I also suffer with disc problems and have done for years. Usually I do some back exercises my doctor gave me and after a while it’s not too bad, but as I’ve got older I get more attacks depending on if I bend the wrong way or turn around sharply especially during the night.

The other week I woke to a terrible pain in my neck, shoulder and down to my elbow. I went to the doctor and he sent me to a&e so I could get an ecg done. They did a chest X-ray and took bloods because of my HF. The doctor said nothing had changed from previous tests I’ve had on the system, and my troponin levels were good so I’ve not had a heart attack.

I also found the next day after the a&e visit the pain in my arm got worse. I had a cannula fitted and bloods taken. I’m on warfarin so I have bloods taken 2 monthly in the same arm because the other one is damaged so I’m going to check if that’s what causes that pain.

I hope you find out what’s causing it. All the best.
