I am sorry to hear about your Husband's heart attack and hope other than the cough he is doing well
None of us are Doctors of course but share our experiences and it has only been a few days since he swapped meds and if it were me I would give it a week or two to see if things settled down and then if not I would go back but that is just what I would do
Obviously if anything gets worse then I would go sooner but hopefully it will improve when his body adjusts
I'm sorry your husband had a recent heart attack, and I hope he is on the mend now after his stents.
I had a heart event of a different kind a few years ago, but I was put on ramipril as a protective measure. The cough was awful. Anyway, I complained, as obviously your husband has, and my medication was changed to candesartan. It took 11 days for the cough to go away, but go away it did!
It seems the ACEi meds, usually ending in -pril, are the culprits, and the ARB meds, usually ending in -sartan, are less likely to cause cough. But as with everything, it will all depend on the individual and most importantly what your husband's GP or cardiologist think are best for your husband.
I hope that helps you both in deciding whether to report now or wait a bit as BeKind suggests.
Just one more thing: please remember to look after yourself too in all of this.
I was on 10 tablets initially after my HA. Both tricagular and apixoban made me cough. I had to take the first for a year, and the second for 3 months. Once I came off them the coughing subsided. Still get the odd cough but nothing that bothers me, as others say, it might be the Ramipril as I take that too
Hi Gaga131. I had a really dry cough from Ramapril following a STEMI that kept me awake a night and was really annoying, and this continued for a while when I changed on to losartan. It did go after a week or so though. Give it time for the old meds to work their way out of the system and you should hopefully find it disappears. Good luck 🤞
Hi Chris. Check your messages 😃 I see in your bio that you're trying to connect with people that had a similar experience to you. I would also like to talk with you about your running regime. Sorry to hijack the post Gaga131
I was on Ramipril, since changed to Entresto. Had the cough but I think it was partly caused by water retention. Second HA on 16th December last year caused very severe heart failure, according to medics, thus the water retention.
My cough stopped after a few months.
Life has changed for me and it has been difficult coming to terms with it. There is nothing worse than not sleeping well. I was assigned to a community heart failure nurse who tweaked my meds over time and now is always available on the phone for advice.
sorry to hear about your husband, I know it’s a worrying time. My husband has been put on BP tablets - Rampiril - he was told they may cause a dry cough, fingers crossed he hasn’t had that - but could be what it is .
