At the start of the week I had a ticklely cough that I put down to an increase of my Lisinopril from 2.5mg to 5mg (ACE Inhibitors are well known for causing a dry cough although it often settles in a few days). However, on Thursday I woke with a red raw sore throat, and streaming nose and eyes. This stayed much the same during the day but worsened with a near constant cough as evening approached. I had an awful night. Observations the next morning showed a slight rise in BP, my usual pulse of 55 - 60 at 77, a slight fever and my O2 down. Anyway it was decided to call the GP and I had a telephone consultation. He thinks it's 50/50 I have Covid! All I know is I feel absolute rubbish. I have had a PCR test and am waiting for the text that says yay or nay. Meanwhile I am isolating, coughing and sleeping. Absolutely zero energy!

So sorry to hear this Michael. I have seen something on facebook about a non covid flu going around too.Whatever it is take great care and rest up. 🤞🏽for -ve PCR
Oh yikes, not what you want to have going on! I also have been reading about 'the worst cold ever' (Daily Telegraph) since yesterday, apparently it is difficult to see off and difficult to distinguish symptoms-wise from Covid.
According to what I read on the Telegraph, the lateral test can give a false negative so it's good you've had the PCR one. Hopefully it will come back negative, one worry eased, anyroad.
Hi Michael, I’ve had exactly the same symptoms and my granddaughter, for whom I do a school run, tested positive, so I had myself convinced and was mentally making arrangements to protect my COPD husband, never mind the danger to myself. Thankfully the result, after what seemed an interminable wait, was negative, but it certainly made me more acutely aware of the dangers, and the precautionary moves I must take to shield from the virus.Hope you have had a negative result by now.
I definitely think masks should have remained compulsory together with distancing where I fibiduals are an unknown quantity. And the abolition of the red list and other moves is plain crazy!
No result as yet. Still feel pretty awful. The nasal drip, and hence cough, have slowed with steroidal nose inhaler. Near exhausted and soaked in perspiration.
Hi Michael , I’ve been unwell the last three weeks with cold symptoms , Monday I woke with such a painful throat and sore mouth , I’ve not been able to take my medication very easily , even just having a drink was difficult . I had a bit of a cough , then started with chest tightness and breathlessness as soon as I started walking around . As I have a recent recovery from pericarditis and I have a pacemaker I was checked over by my gp, he said all obs were ok but if my breathing got worse and I had chest pain or severe tightness he said I’d need to call an ambulance . Things did get worse so I went to the urgent care at hospital where I was given antibiotics and an inhaler . I’m still not feeling too good , there is a virus type thing going round . I was asked if I’d done a covid test which I hadn’t , I had covid in July and how I feel now is just like a bad cold. Everyone rise in the family is fine whereas when I had covid it went through the family so not convinced it’s covid . Hope you feel better soon x
Xmas eve routine check up for BP about 4 years ago. Nurse called Doc to check as she was concerned mines was high. He confirmed it was and put me instantly on Lisinipril. He told me the side effect of coughing and he was right I didn’t stop thereafter constant cough cough cough. I had a follow up appointment with him on 13 Jan by which time I had been suffering from indigestion pains round my jaw feeling really awful and sweaty all the time. It got that my husband refused to go to work as I looked so awful and I was glad . 13 Jan appointment time. Doc told me I was type 2 diabetic and I sat there feeling ghastly not listening as too unwell to take in what he was saying. He asked me to take top off so he could listen to my back re my COPD… I struggled to get my arm out as skin so sweaty and he was getting irritated. He insisted I was having an exacerbation. I said I wasn’t. I went home. Next days chest pains very severe so rang surgery .. he rang back said he would call an ambulance. He said after I had left he realised the symptoms I had described I was having were those of heart attack ……. But he didn’t get back to me he waited to see what would happen obviously!!! When I saw him afterwards he apologised so I appreciated that.
Sorry for long take but I blamed lisinipril for knocking me into HA mode!! Beware Michael. Xx
I have been Lisinopril for well over a decade. My dose dropped from from 20mg to zero following my 15 kg weight loss and severe infection at the time of my amputation leading to severe hypotension. Unfortunately, but fortunately, we are all different. I trust you are aot better now. Are you a confirmed Type II diabetic?
Yes it is a good job we are all different! I recovered well from HA and yes re type 11. I don’t see it as a problem for me though so all’s well.
Wishing you all the best . You have had some challenges you seem to be dealing with great fortitude. Much admired ! Take care x
You are certainly not on your own with this Michael. I have been feeling quite ill for about 3 weeks now off and on 😞. Feeling absolutely worn out, aching from head to foot, sneezing, hot most of the time plus a banging headache!! I've had two PCR Tests, both Negative! As soon as I think it's getting a bit better, it comes back with avengeance. You have my sympathy. It has been on BBC News as well about it! I just feel as though I've been hit by a Bus!!
Hope you feel better soon Michael a friend of mine just text me to say the same she has the same symptoms as yourself think like everybody else is saying something definitely doing the rounds lemon honey hot water and a bit of brandy if you can hope you feel better soon 🙂
Hi michael. Sorry to hear you are poorly. You are becoming greedy with your list of problems - save some for the rest of us! Do post your result when you can, it shouldn't be too long. My result came the same day I did a drive through one. Look after yourself. X
Me and hubby have had the same symptoms and we are into our second week of feeling really ill. We have had PCR tests and they've come back negative. Our GP (video call) said there is a nasty cold virus doing the rounds which people can't shake off as easily as the 'common cold'. We've no idea where we've got this from as we don't go anywhere!!
Sorry to hear that I am exactly same not had energetic for couple of days did lateral flow test yesterday which came back positive got a Oct test today didn’t have the energy to get it done sooner my throat is throbbing and mucas is horrendous. It seems to have to grip on my chest as well as my angina appears to be worse at the minute.
I’m hoping I’m seeing the back end of it as I’m double jabs
Only upside is not mages to face food for several days and have been living off water so good for waiste line 😬😂
Michael, don't mess around with the possibility of Covid. Catch it early and it is not a problem, wait and it is more difficult to deal with. Most of us don't want to be a bother, but with this little thing, we must be.
Sorry to hear you are poorly Micheal. They do say that the cold this year is going to be quite rampant and severe. I hope you don't have covid, but the tests can't be relied on. A friend of mine, double dosed, loss of taste, smell, sweats, fatigue etc. came back negative on 2 occasions. Get well soon!! Steve
Hi Michael, What else do you need but a case of Covid, I do hope it's just a bad cold and will run it's course, keep warm and lots of fluids, hope you feel well soon.
Sorry you’re not feeling well Michael. A friend recently had something similar - it wasn’t Covid, it was another virus that floored her for about 3 weeks but after a course of antibiotics for a chest infection that got her when she was down she is now recovered and back to work! It’s probably more akin to ‘flu!
I have a similar problem! However, my cough has now become ‘productive’. I did a lateral flow CoVid test just to be sure and that was clearly negative so I am putting it down to a cold. It will be interesting to know your results!
Sorry to hear you're not well, hopefully it is a very bad cold and not Covid! Wishing you a speedy recovery! From all the replies to your post I realise that I must be even more vigilant than I already am! Seems that something rather nasty is in circulation! If I must use the bus I always wear FFP2 respirator as the situation is dire on public transport ( well that is Liverpool/ Merseyside I'm talking about).
Mainly older commuters use face coverings, the city is again awash with students after the summer , none of the young people wear masks!!!😡😡
My anxiety is somewhere at the ceiling level when I get on a bus!
First of all, all windows are shut ,I always open the front ones before I sit down. For which I get glares as if I were a serial killer!!🥴
I don't mix with anyone apart from my family
- daughter and son in law are teachers in 6th form...grandson in primary school and granddaughter in nursery!!! I might have to limit contact with them as they're the ones who will most probably infect me with something! In summer their gift to me was a dose of head lice!!🤣😫😱
I’m no expert by any stretch but it seems as though the usual round of coughs and colds are far worse this year. My lay persons take on it is that we’ve all been so germ free, isolating, cleaning and wearing masks, that our immune systems have put their feet up, thinking they’re not needed…then BAM! Whether cold or Covid, any microbial invasion is a shock to the system!
So many people around me at work have sore throat to end all sore throats, half of me thinks ‘keep away’ and the other half thinks, it’s probably inevitable, let’s get it over with!
The PCR test is still not back yet.after nearly 48 hours! Had another rough day yesterday but nasal drip is much reduced with prescribed nasal inhaler. This has reduced coughing as not going back down throat either. I still have some vicious coughing spasms though. Voice so raspy people struggle to make me out - sounds like matured with rough whiskey and 40 Capstans. Still very tired and totally washed out though.
So sorry to hear you are ill, you are such a bastion of support for so many of us. Hope your test results come through soon and that you make a speedy recovery.
Cor Michael considering how you coped with everything you have been through, especially the amputation with its associated infection, you must feel really rough. You are an inspiration too many and always give good advice. Although you now couldn't now do some of the challenges I suspect your mental toughness would surprise the professionals on the SAS reality TV program. I sincerely hope it's not Covid and just a dreadful cold. Get well soon!
I'm really sorry that you are feeling rough. We all hope that you come through this with a negative PCR test, and that it is 'just' a really bad dose of a cold. I know that I say for all of us to get well soon, as I know how many people you help, encourage and support through this site.
Take care, and wishing you all the best for a swift and full recovery.
Sorry to read this Michael, hoping for a negative pcr result for you as you’ve more than plenty to handle without Covid layered on top of it all. Everything crossed for you please update with results and take care.
I thought we all did lateral flow tests twice a week since the lockdown restrictions were lifted? The test kits are free, and you report the results online. Am I the only one doing so? I hope not or we'll never get out of this mess!
Hi Michael hope you feeling better I've heard quite a lot of people had symptons like us after doing tests said bad colds but they too did covid tests which came bk negative keep up with fluids its because everything was about covid flu and colds almost forgotten
On 15th I went down with flu, shivering, runny nose cough. Couldn’t get out of bed. Did lateral flow and it was negative. Did PCR on Friday and 2 days later it came back negative.
I had temperature up to 37.8, runny nose till few days back. I still have a bit of cough & frog and n my throat, but no temperature or runny nose.
Hi Michael how are you feeling ? I’m now into my fourth week of this cold/virus thing that’s going round , today I had a very painful sore throat again that had gone away , add costochondritis and problems with my pacemaker , not a great combination . Hope you are feeling better xx
Hi Michael
Have only just seen your post. Really hope you get well soon and fingers crossed for a negative result. Although Covid or not it sounds like your going through it. Totally agree with your comments about face masks. I really feel uncomfortable in crowded areas when there are no face masks worn. It may help prevent a lot of nasty viruses sweeping through communities.
After stating to feel better on Tuesday I had a bad night and felt worse yesterday. The bouts of coughing, when they occur, are exhausting. I also get periods of heavy perspiration to the point the sheets needed changing. But then there are others worse off than me!
I didn't think it worthy of a new post but well it's official - my PCR test got lost! So I have to do another. But will a negative a week be proof that I did not have it...
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that, I've only just caught up with this... Did you get the fresh test result back? I can't see any newer posts from you?Take care, and wishing you all the best.
