Hi. I have recently had a dexa scan and apart from T score results,it says on the spine one; calcified vessels causing artifacts. Looking on Google it sounds heart related. I have lung disease and get chest pains when walking and also fast heart rate for which I am waiting for a 24 hour heart monitor. Any advise appreciated

Calcified vessels
Hi Sueysue,I can't really advise you and, to my knowledge , have never had a Dexa scan, but I do have calcified arteries. In my 50s I was told I had the arteries of a 90 year old so presumably calcification is one facet of aging. It affects both my heart and body's arteries . I have FH and have had very high cholesterol all my life, although it is now controlled. I think, in my case, the extensive calcification is related to this and in my narrowed arteries it helps to keep the plaque stable. It does make certain surgical procedures more difficult eg stenting and clamping vessels. I'm afraid I'm not medically trained, but I suggest you ask your cardiologist to explain your results to you. I'd be interested to hear what he/ she says on the topic.
