Has anyone had this procedure, if so has it improved your health situation? My cousin has been diagnosed with aortic stenosis and this procedure may help her if she passes all the relevant checks to go ahead.

transcatheter aortic valve implantation

Hi Good morning
I had this procedure (TAV) done about 15 months ago. Like any procedure there can be complications. Thank fully my operation went well But it does take time to recover due to medication side effects.
My advise is to stay positive and day by day you would improve.
Good luck
Morning! I will flag MichaelJH on this as he has written about Sir Mick Jagger who has has this procedure and would have been back touring in months had it not been for the pandemic!
Hi I had a T A VI in April. Op was no problem and I was home in 2 days first 3 weeks I still felt fragile but the energy started to return At ^ weeks My blood pressure started to jump around and I had to do back in for 2 days However they said this was because the valve was working so well that my blood pressure was confused and was trying to work out where it should be It got sorted and 4 months on I have finished cardio rehab with a score of 8.8 meaning I can do anything about from competitive sports as long as my heart rate stays no more than 125 The cardio rehab is brilliant so tell her to go for it This time 6 months ago I could hardly get to the end of street now I can exercise for a hour without stopping and walk for about 3 miles and I know I will still keep improving I am 76 and have arthritis and fibromyalgia too so no spring chicken. If she is suitable tell her to go for it so much faster recovery than open heart surgery Any questions just let me know A great website on Facebook is UK Aortic &heart defects pre and post surgery A brilliant and helpful group which I have found
so useful They even do Zoom meeting once every three weeks
Tell your cousin Good luck
Thank you for your reply cappachina. Your comments are most helpful and especially as an older person as my cousin is 88 and not very keen on operations. She may not qualify for the procedure but will know in a couple of weeks or so. She realises the seriousness of her condition and the life limiting situation should she not qualify for the TAVI.
I do know if someone who had the op at your mams afe sbd made a good recovery and the surgeon told me he had operated on a lot of people 85 to 92 who all did well so it is successful for people that age
Plainly without the op she will just deteriorate It will be a hard choice at 88 and she can only follow the advice of the surgeon .
