Hi Eddie64

Sorry to hear you’re feeling poorly at the moment and are in hospital.

I have had an angiogram performed before and they went in through my right wrist to check for any blockages and other potential issues.

I believe I was sedated for the procedure and it was over fairly quickly.

I’m sorry to hear about your nerves/worry regarding this, as I too was also very nervous when I had mine last year after my heart attack. However, there are trained professionals around you the whole time so you will be okay 🤞🏽

Let us know how you get on.

All the best.

Hello Eddie64,

I have had an angiogram when they measured the flow of the blood through my coronary arteries, they measured my coronary flow reserve, as well as how well the blood was flowing including whether there was any resistance in the microvascular vessels.

This type of angiogram can take slightly longer.

Mine took over 2 hours.

First a chemical adenosine was used and then guide wires. It was alittle bit uncomfortable as I wasn't sedated.

The staff talked to me throughout.

I had mine done to check how my small blood vessels were working and whether I have microvascular dysfunction.

I don't.

I then had another chemical acetylcholine injected into my coronary arteries which induced my usual chest pain and coronary vasospasms.

This did hurt and I was given morphine. This is how my vasospastic angina was confirmed.

Despite the discomfort, I felt safe. There were 8 members of staff in the room including 2 Interventional Cardiologists.

The staff were lovely and kept me calm throughout.

My Cardiologist and I now know why I experience my angina symptoms, so I felt the test was worth going through.

Before the angiogram talk to the staff about how you feel and ask them to explain the procedure to you in full.

Ask if you can have sedation if necessary.

Good luck, I hope your angiogram goes well.

Not that procedure but I did have two angiograms 5 years ago; one with two stents the day after a heart attack, the second a couple of months later to check on two other blockages. Both done through my wrist. NO pain at all either time; just bad bruising up my arm after the first one. There was a lady in hospital opposite me last weekend who'd just had an identical procedure after a brain aneurysm burst. They threaded it from her groin into her brain to fit a stent to repair the aneurysm. She had pain behind her eye where it had burst but that's all. She kept saying how amazed she was that they could do that.
