2 months since diagnosis

It's been almost two months since my initial heart incident and I'm only beginning to discover the ways in which the serious damage that has been done to my heart limits the essential elements of my daily life, like food & water consumption and exercise. My diet is very limited and my exercise even more so. I can't do five minutes at the second lowest speed on my treadmill without chest tightness, which forces me to stop walking. I can't do qigong or taiji or yoga, although I do go to my outdoor Lohan class. I take a chair, do slow walking while they study the form and rest when I need to. I didn't go last week because of the wildfire smoke, but plan to go tomorrow. Of course I'm doing my best to accept my present condition but ... some days I'm just miserable about it.

I'm distracting myself from this misery by engaging in one of my favourite mind activities ... studying ancient dharmic teachings and renewing my study of Sanskrit. I've become a keyboard warrior on the issue of local climate action.

Hi Kuya

The damage on your heart can be restored as time goes on with medication and some lifestyle changes. As your heart improves, I suspect that your appetite and exercise limits will also increase.

On a positive note, it’s always great to keep the mind occupied after a heart event as it prevents us from feeling low which you are doing with your Dharmic teachings and Sanskrit.

I hope you can keep your spirits up!

All the best.

Sanskrit and climate action sounds good to me. Don't omit some gentle exercise though.

hi Kuya, it’s nearly 2yrs now since my heart event that’s left me with some muscle damage and arrhythmia’s. It’s a gradual roller coaster of slow improvement both mentally and physically. I was fit and exercised before the event and even now I continue to improve. I’ve changed my regime and some of the exercise that I do. And have made some adjustments to others and and getting a rest. I was given an Apple Watch by my kids so I can see the improvements as I found it very frustrating not being able to do what I used to. Be patient with yourself I know that’ll be hard but do it. I do more exercise now than a lot of people without any health issues and consider myself fit in that respect. You can get there. Listen to your body it’ll tell you the pace of improvement you should go at. Good luck.

Well done on doing what you can on the exercise front. Something is better than nothing. I had to give up my yoga sessions but now am a able to manage chair yoga. I also walk as much as I can, some days better than others. Your studies are a very good idea to keep your mind off the worry hamster wheel too! Good luck x

Hi, Kuya,

In the big scheme of time, two months is a short time toward recovery. It sounds like you are making progress, but, as others on here have said, “Be gentle with yourself and allow yourself the time to improve.” I am one year past my HA, and I know that I have improved, but I still don’t feel that I am physically or mentally where I was before that event. But I am still trying to improve weekly. I set small goals and then work toward them. If I fail one week, I try to not be too hard on myself about it. I just try harder the next week to do just a little better with diet and exercise and everything. Anyway, the point—be kind to you and set small weekly goals. You will, hopefully, eventually, feel stronger and better.

Also, to echo the point that Runinthepark made earlier, the world definitely does need more people like you! Keep on fighting the good fight!

Do I understand from your profile that you had a triple heart bypass 3 months or so ago?

I had my quadruple bypass just on a year ago this month. Today was my 5th very strenuous walk on Dartmoor in the last 10 days (to see the bluebells) . I managed very well and once I get going and heart and arteries have 'warmed' up its all fine.

I am a historical climatologist so interested in your becoming a climate keyboard warrior. The uplands are a very good place to see how, during the Holocene, we have had much warmer periods than today. Most notable being the 1540's, the MWP, the Roman Warm period and the Bronze age period. So if you are going to be a keyboard warrior you will come up against those who will offer a different view point so hope you have the facts to counter them.

Quite what we are supposed to use for Electrical base power completely eludes me as it can't be renewables.

Definitely worth having a key board interest but hope you can improve your physical fitness with exercise and medication and diet. All the best

Looks like I was looking at a 'related post' and not your own background so I don't know what treatment is being suggested for you other than some medication. Hope there is a plan in place by the medics?
