Coping with M.I and post Pericarditis

I suffered from Myocardial Infraction on 7th March 2023.

Two weeks ago I started feeling unwell. Diziness, shortness of breath, pain in my upper left handside of my chest, pain went/go to bed, fatigue.

I described these symptoms to my cardio nurse who then contacted a Cardiologist who said that I have Dresslers Syndrome (Pericarditis).

They prescribed me with Colchicine. Which hasnt worked, nor has taking Ibuprofen.

I also suffer from Congential Adrenal Hypoplasia which I have to take prednisolone for.

I am frustrated that I cannot link in with a medical person. I feel so darn ill, I sleep away the day, awake to eat and go to the loo.

I am so tired of being tired. I am exhausted from feeling constantly ill all the time with no let up and always the fear, when the chest pain becomes severe, do I feel I am going to experience another heart attach.

Is there anyone out there who has Pericarditis after a Myocardial Infaction? I would truly love to hear from you

Thanks so much and please excuse the ramble

hi sorry to hear you’ve been diagnosed with Dresslers Syndrome. I had that after open heart surgery but I’m guessing it’ll be similar. I was warned I could have flare ups for about a year with them getting less severe each time. That’s exactly what happened and during a flat up I learnt to do absolutely nothing as it lengthened the episode. I also found that keeping my shoulders warm really helped and even now I make sure I wear a scarf when it gets cold which I never did before. It’s important you listen to your body and don’t push yourself as you’re still recovering from your MI in March which will take longer because of dresslers. I’d had my operation i the May and it was Christmas before I felt well all the time. My heart nurse really told me off for trying to push myself and gave me permission to do nothing. If you can accept you’re doing the right thing by sleeping it may become easier for you but I’d definitely book with your GP and have a chat with them. Mine were great and we learnt about dresslers together!I’m now nearly four years post op and haven’t had a flare up for a few years.

Hope this helps and be kind to yourself.

I don’t have any experience of your situation but I just wanted to say that I empathise with what you’re going through and I hope you can find a solution that gives you some energy back!

Is it worth contacting your GP to explain your situation and ask if you can be referred for further investigation as the medication isn’t making any improvement?

Keep us posted with how you’re getting on and know that you’re not alone!

Best wishes
