I found an article on the Wales online website yesterday about a study that is being conducted into long term beta blocker use in heart attack patients with or without a heart failure diagnosis.Has anyone who has taken beta blockers long term found they improved a heart condition or stabilised it or had negative impacts from them.

Interesting. I have HF, but not after a heart attack.

Here's a link to the orginal research. heart.bmj.com/content/early...

This is what the research is suggesting.

"Beta-blockers (BB) are an established treatment following myocardial infarction (MI). However, it is unknown whether BBs beyond the first year of MI have a secondary preventive role in patients without heart failure or left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD)."

More studies are required.

If you are concerned, I suggest you talk to your GP or Cardiologist.

Dear DanniC8*

This Rag of a publication just picks up { like London on line /Scotland on line etc etc } any old sensationalist news to promote the advertising between each article .

If you are indeed worried by taking this drug which lets remember is prescribed for more than just simply reducing heart rate, then talk to your Dr who can discuss another method of medication.

I always feel sad for such negative posts about Beta Blockers, because what has been proved is the good they have done for hundreds of thousands of people.

Of course " one size does not fit all " in these cases some will always have the time/effort and want to find an alternative , but the majority will follow the proof that for them it simply works { side effects as well } to do a job in helping prolong their lives.

Hope all is well with you. please don't let press like this worry you, its your response to the ads that they want not what your think of any item written { copied }

Take care,

I take them but for fast heart rate. Yes they do come with their side effects but they do do the job they were prescribed to me for. I think studies like this should perhaps be 100% accurate before articles like this are written. It doesn't help people who suffer with heart anxiety to read these.

I totally agree with you , but please let your Dr/Cardiologist help support you with their knowledge , question them, they work for your health not you for theirs .

Keep as strong as you can

Take care

Hi.I was put on beta blockers to stop my palpitation attacks. This was in May 2017 and it worked for me, I haven't had any palpitations since I started taking them.

Best wishes, Denise
