Anyone else watch this last night Cardiac Surgeon really laid back If I was waiting in the Yorkshire area I would be reassured with her calm manner under pressure.

No I didn't see it. Wish I had though, I love Programmes like this. What they do is really amazing. I've had OHS and the Surgeon that I had was fantastic and so very, very, calm and made you feel really at ease and I was absolutely petrified! π
I'll keep my eye out for that and see if I can find it on 'I Player' or 'Catchup'! π
Hello
I have just watched it on catch up why I have no idea because I am not into these things but my problem is I am nosey ! x
Aw right lol π€£. I wouldn't have watched it before the Surgery though I can assure you or I wouldn't have had the Op at all π
Hello
I would have been daft enough to watch before my surgery knowing me been noisy
I knew what was sort of going to happen but after watching it today I think I would have rather not seen it but fantastic what they can do x
I wouldn't call it daft BK. I'd say Brave!! π
Hello
Well thank you for saying that but seriously had I watched that first I am not sure if you would have got me in to have it done
I did feel sorry for the man though with all the delays I was so glad when he finally got it done x
When my Consultant told me I needed Surgery he asked me if I wanted to know what they did and I said NO because I wouldn't have had it either, would have made me 'think' too much. I could watch it now no problem, I'm out the other side! ππ€£
I was such a wreck the surgeon started to read out the forms you sign and she must have saw my face and stopped and said it does not matter just sign here
Like you say a lot better watching these things if you want to after not before for those that would rather not know x
I'll catch up on 'Catch Up' later then. Thanks for telling me it's on there! π
x
It is called Saving lives qiqn Leeds.Covers various types of surgery.I never miss it.Of course I sometimes wonder if LGI is my second home.
Hello kkatz. πI was going to try and find it last night but I had Visitors! Found it this morning though so will definitely have a look when I can. Was thinking afterwards too that it might not be on our Region as we have BBC2 Wales! Yeah I know what you mean about 'Second Home' lol and Hospitals, Clinics, Doctor's etc. I feel the same!π
I would have preferred it in the black and white era!
But in those days besides lack of colour the picture was nowhere as sharp! I was talking about my parents' 10" or 12" set back in 1962 which they brought in 1957. They were renting a much bigger set from Visionhire for the WC in 1966!
I remember watching golf, when the camera would pan up into the sky, but you couldn't see anything. Or the strings in "The Woodentops".
Hello
I did not know it was on even though I have a TV book every week !
I got it on catch up though x
I watched it, have been watching it for weeks, amazing what they can do, but it must be fustrating nearly every time having to check if there is a bed available before they can start the operations.
watching them as I type, fascinating.
Saving Lives In Leeds is the one I am watching.
The gamble if a bed available when the day comes for surgery is hard to watch though when they have to make decision of who to keep and who to send home.
The waiting list and bed availability is definitely a running theme.
All comes down to money π
But I was watching it in B & W, and it was perfectly clear to me.
I'm far too squeamish to watch things like that.
Yes I watched a programme called something like Surgery at the edge of life before my surgery.I was reassured by the fact that it was their every day routine and I found it interesting.
Unfortunately for me my anxiety was around the hospital stay though and the reality was actually worse than I'd imagined.
Good morning Prada47.Watched programme about OHS and found it very interesting
I saw a similar programme in 2020 before my double bypass and found it interesting
Hubby said I should nd watch them.
Take care and have a good day x x
Found it very interesting, but was it just me, didn't it seem a little easier than you thought ?
{ this is coming from someone that has just stripped an engine down and has a few bits left over on re-building it } LOL
Hello Good Comment I think it was scaled back so as not to scare people !!!
Like it never showed how they open the chest ( with a Saw ) or how they pack ice slush around your Heart to cool it down. I know they do that because I was on a Ventilator for much longer than normal as it took quite awhile to warm mine up. One thing I am very pleased about is it has stayed warm ever since. lol
Regards
Hello
I think they missed quite a bit out as he was in theatre they said 3 hours and we just saw a few minutes here and there making it look easier I think which is a good thing maybe for those waiting to have it done x
I was supposed to be having OHS today (postponed to unknown date while more tests looks at the risk factors) and while I'm not especially squeamish about surgical procedures I'm pretty scared about the aftermath of not being able to use my body and being in pain. I might wait until in recovery?? π
oh no I missed it. I will try on catch up. What was the program called and on which channel. Iβve recently had OHS so wld be interested in watching this.
The BBC had an amazing series called Surgeons: At The Edge of Life - You can catch it on iplayer. There were a couple of programmes featuring some of our respective surgeries which are just amazing. TV not for the faint hearted however
Series 2 episode 4 shows surgery at Papworth on the heart - I watched it AFTER my OHS not before
The lady cardiologist repaired my mitral valve some 8 years ago at LGI. The skills of she and her team are self evident, while she is a most pleasant, easygoing and reassuring personality. If you get Betsy Evans you are in good hands.

I wrote a while ago on here, I am now 77 having had a triple bypass age 31.I watched years ago and a while before my op and thought like hell theyβll never do that to me,However At 31 with a wife and 2 small daughters I had to think again.I was a very fit 31 which probably saved me having a heart attack. Only mild angina when football training, which at rest did not show on an ecg but an exercise test running up and down stairs in hospital showed the extent of heart disease.(No exercise machines available). My doctor Dr Snyder saved my life by insisting on an exercise test after the first showed nothing.
Anyway my op in 1977 was set to go ahead I even had my pre med and it was cancelled asa poor lady in a road accident needed my rare blood B Rhesus Negative. So a month later after experiencing the efficiency of proceedings at my previous visit I felt so confident and it went ahead and here I am.
One piece of advice I will give is get good insurance and tell all relations with responsibilities to buy good life insurance and try to do it before something like this creeps up on you.I was very poorly covered so after successful op I did get insurance but it was loaded because of my risk. So get covered before this strikes.
Also applying for entry in to Guinness Book of Records as The Longest Surviving Triple Heart Bypass Patient, current record 34 years me 45 years and counting its in the melting pot now.
Cheers for this, I'll watch it over the weekend.
