After seeing the cardiology consultant for reoccurring palpitations he has said he's going to prescribe me a low dose of bisporolol but has not said what for. Over the last few months I've had several EKG all coming bk normal and a three day tape as well as even recorder all results coming bk normal. I'm generally fit and healthy do alot of walking but lately my resting heart rate is mid to late 70 beats and if I go to make a drink or to wash up my heart rate goes up well over 100. I'm worried about taking something that's going to lower me heart rate especially when he has not given me a reason for prescribing
Bisporolol: After seeing the cardiology... - British Heart Fou...
Bisporolol
That's just it. There was no diagnosis he just said everything came bk normal bit was prescribing me a low dose No explanation. I get chest pain but they put that down to costochonditris
It's never the same one in the clinic I'm thinking my doctor may be able to give me some insight if she has access to the notes. I cut out caffeine to try and help and gave up smoking months ago.
Can you contact the cardiologists secretary to ask about your recent appointment and why you’re on beta blockers , or ask your gp if they know why you’ve been put on bisoprolol, or if the cardiologist has any concerns about your symptoms I have a pacemaker , I’m on bisoprolol as I was getting episodes of a really fast heart rate and could feel it pounding so they started me on medication . I can always email my cardiologist secretary if I have any questions for him and eventually I get a reply . I also get palpitations and they can be unnerving .
I was always ending.up in A n e cuz they kept getting longer. I'll ring docs when they are back open
When I first stated getting symptoms it took quite a few visits to a&e and gp before I was referred for tests , eventually I wore a holter monitor for a week that revealed I was having heart pauses plus episodes of fast and slow heart rate. I now have a pacemaker . Hope you can get some help from cardiology or gp .
Hi Westie2012, I hope you don’t mind me jumping in to ask you a question? I have MVD and permanent Afib. A recent 24 hour Holter monitor showed that I had 189 pauses over a 24 hour period with some being over 3 seconds in length. I was told I will need a pacemaker but “not yet”. Can you tell me please how frequent were your pauses and for how long each time before they fitted the pacemaker? Thanks.
Wow that’s a lot of pauses , I have no idea how many pauses I had , I do know the longest pause was over 6 seconds and my cardiologist told me that the pauses would get longer and more frequent . It was around a month after being told I needed a pacemaker to the date of my procedure . I was told that if I blacked out I must go straight to hospital , thankfully I didn’t need to . I hope your hear from cardiology soon , keep pressing them for updates if you don’t hear back soon . Take care and I’m here to chat if you need to xx
Thank you for your reply Westie2012. I think the “not yet” comment from my cardiologist referred to his decision that I’m currently not bad enough to warrant fitting a pacemaker. I did have a very brief blackout a couple of months ago, after which my Afib reverted to normal sinus rhythm. Sadly5 days later, I went back into Afib. I couldn’t follow up on the blackout immediately because I was on a cruise, but I recovered quickly. My cardiologist said the blackout was similar to switching a computer off and back on again to reboot it 😂. I have an appointment to see him again in August, so will ask more questions then. Thank you for your offer of support 😊
Concerning emails to the support staff... I recently had consultations with several specialists. I was told reports and follow-up appointments would be issued. For one aspect I received nothing. I emailed the department and received immediate contact. Thus with 36 hours I received satisfactory answers. Try emails!
He said nothing. I felt almost fobbed off in all honesty
He offered nothing at all. It's not like it's new it's been going on since January just getting passed backwards and forwards
I have had similar symptoms to this in the past. I see you are 33 years old so the chances are that your heart is healthy and that you are getting these symptoms because of anxiety. The consultant may have decided to prescribe bisoprolol because it will treat these symptoms not because it's needed medically. However, in order to confirm this you should speak to your doctor. Palpitations, even when benign, can be scary. I've been having them for over 35 years and they can still terrify me. Good luck.
I wouldn't assume that these days. Young age does not mean healthy heart., I found out this the hard way and i was military fit and in my mid 30s. Those anxiety symptoms could actually be your body warning you that something is off and needs investigating.
Thankyou going to give my doctor a call when they are back open. Got other issues I need to speak to her for anyway so she can check my notes maybe and clear things up
I am on 2.5 Nebivolol. My resting heart rate has always been around 55. However, it is now around 45 which doesn't cause me any problems. I feel it may be too slow for when I am exercising though.
Good morning, I am so glad that you are challenging this decision. The problem with some doctors and cardiologists is that they are too quick to prescribe beta blockers without doing proper investigations. There could be many reasons why this is happening to you. Their job is to find the reason not just offer you drugs which can have long tern health implications. Think about it. You are 33. Are they seriously expecting you to start popping beta blockers for the rest of your life? Its crazy.
I’ve been on various doses of Bisoprolol and one of the easiest ways to put it is to prevent the heart getting too excited (that was said to me I’ve not made that up 😆) but it helps blood pressure and slows down heart rate and is apparently one of the better heart sensitive beta blockers
Im just worried.itll slow it down to much if you know what I mean but atm I can't even walk room to room without it going over 100
I was prescribed Bisoprolol 1.25mg for SVT and it has almost stopped the problem. Despite the comments they rarely prescribe medication without clinical reasons for doing so. You do not need to be on them for life as this may settle itself.
bisoprolol slows your heart rate and stifles adrenaline. I have adrenaline that spikes and my Bp and heart rate increases. Bisoprolol prevents the spikes.
How fit are you? If you don't know, try to find out (not always so easy). Try a free HRV app like PulseHRV (Google play) and start tracking your fitness and stress levels to see if this needs dealing with. At your age you should be able to walk a mile in 15 to 20 minutes no trouble, but only if you're fit.
Before this all started I could do a forty minute walk to kids school and forty back no problem now I'm just wiped out. If I got out my heart rate can go up to 120 130 and that's going slow not even normal pace
Just another thing that occurred to me, did they do a blood test on you to check stress hormones (mainly cortisol I think). If you've been stressed badly for some months/years these level can get stuck and permanently stress you out and affect pulse, blood pressure and other things.
Just the usual tests. Full blood count. Liver kidney thyroid inflammation cholesterol and a few others I had a high protein so treated me for a suspected blood clot but those scans came back clear. I started the bisporolol this morning 2.5mg but I only took half the tablet just in case I do worry quite a bit so far no side effects not been on a walk yet to see how I fair on that side.of things but without the tablet yesterday slow walking took me up to 135
Youll be fine. The body has a way of regulate the heart rate to suit the bodys needs. When i was first put on bisporol, my heart rate was between 30-50 beats per minute! Actually mostly 35bpm. They were shocked and quickly lowered the dose. I was fine however and didnt have much symptoms relating to this. They blamed it on my previous fitness level. Anyways been on this drug for around 3 years without many problems. Low dose of 2.5mg and heart rate sits around 60-80. If you have anxiety symptoms too then it may actually help keep you calmer with the lower heart rate
Hi.I was put on bisoprolol by my Cardiologist,10mg a day to start with, which I have now lowered to 7.5mg. Because of palpitation attacks. He said he couldn't understand why my doctor hadn't prescribed them before for me. These attacks never showed up in ECG or other heart monitoring, and my doctor just said it was nothing to worry about!! They had been getting a lot worse as I got older. Since going on bisoprolol I have not had anymore palpitation attacks.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes
Denise
I had two blackouts , one I just fell back onto the sofa as luckily that’s where I was standing at the time , I really don’t know the name given to the pauses , I couldn’t tell when they were happening obviously unless I had a blackout
Is anything being done about your heart pauses as you’re having so many ? I’ve added pics of the printouts of my heart monitor results that were in my notes when I was waiting to have my pacemaker fitted .
659 is an awful lot! Mine are not due to ectopic beats but Afib, which went undiagnosed for many years until it became permanen, by then it was too late to do much about it. Incidentally, I had to pay privately for the Holter that showed the pauses, it wasn’t offered on the NHS.
I always say that my heart has gone self employed!!
I was put into Bisoprolol 1.25mg as I can have episodes of tachycardia which can be caused by pain, anxiety, panic attacks and also throw out a few ectopics at the same time. I have always had a fast heart rate , but it seems to becoming more problematic as I have had a few visits to A&E and the tachycardia is always there! . ECGs, bloods and holter tests have always come back OK and I use a Kardia monitor as well, as all the doctors have been concerned about AFib.
It has kept my heart rate down which is much better, but sometimes the tiredness is a nuisance. The GP says keep with it and the tiredness should settle - fingers crossed!
Vasal Vagel? It’s a condition where you literally just Faint and loose consciousness and get dizzy, weak once you regain full consciousness. She started having episodes around puberty (B4, or during) and I can’t remember the last one…maybe 18 in high school- she’s now 26. Doctors made her carry a small bag of salted pretzels and Gatorade to consume after passing out. Sodium, potassium…..which seems to get her stable pretty quick but, it used to scare her as a kid.
I had a mechanical AVR due to being born with a bicuspid aortic valve + an Aortic Aneurysm repaired only 7 months after diagnosis and told by Dr. Girardi -Thorasic Cardiac surgery and one of top in country. He did Letterman’s heart surgery (I’m 45, so I’m constantly surrounded by liberal, annoying, young people at work and I now can tell people I was alive when humans destroyed their Human RACE by making your complexion and skin color the only thing or most important part of a person. Off topic but, all humans are the same based on what culture and region of Earth they grew up at…..not the Melanin in their skin. I found out I had it-Bicuspid Aortic valve disease and a aneurysm that wasn’t the 5.5cm required to operate as I had no symptoms besides the 180+/120+ during a work training on managing the meds and giving them out to the residents of the DD/ID group home I manage. Went to doctor after I finished my certification last 20 min…I was at main office doing another training 2 weeks later and after my PCP prescribed 2 BP meds and was waiting on my cardio appt.
I was 38when diagnosed and was a foster child then adopted so I have zero info on who I am or where I came from. But, I just got what NY state had left fr my 1978 adoption which we’re closed then and baby went from Vagina to adoptive parents directly from mother to strangers which low paid and overworked social workers have a finite time to investigate and interview to see if a couples a match which my social worker must have been High, paid off or just lazy and moronic…as all it takes is 2-3 visits with them to see they are 1st generation Italian-Sicilian and both were the youngest of not one of in their family and both are self absorbed, selfish, lazy, and trash as they have no friends and when they make some they initiate a fight or problem as they seem to prefer dumb, lazy, no common sense and have refused to learn anything new and are the kind of people that could win $800 million in lotto, get charged no tax on it and still find something to bitch about. Oh- my adopted father had a heart attack at 36yo only 3,years after adopting me and 11 years from their 1st adoption (who has intellectual disabilities and dumb, lazy, poor, abusive in all ways and tempers that scared my friends growing up and as kids were not allowed to be inside my house for backyard by their parents because my father could go from normal person to beating me, verbal abuse and a look that well over a dozen friends from grade school to my 20’swete afraid of my 5’6, loser legal Parent who to this day won’t admit he would beat, spank, scream at me in the middle of Disney world, Hersey, stores, parties when as a kid I acted like a kid. He sounds like a big, tough, hard ass and only stopped when I was a freshman in HS as I started lifting weights at 13, grew taller then my legal parent and was wishing I would wake up with a different family. Not rich…we were poor as my dad retired in 1981 with a partial shit pension and disability payments which he took Pennie’s so he didn’t have to work a real job- his family are ALL aggressive, selfish, legit narcissistic and now with 14 years of psych and SW experience and 4 degrees….I now see my fathers, role model who expects his adopted and poorly raised by him (i wasn’t read to, my parents barely can read the NY Post , written at a 4th grade level. I likely was a FA baby or was born high. Fetalalcohol syndrome is a cause for my defective aortic valve and Bicuspid valves don’t cause problems until latex30’s or early 40’s…I was 39. Drinking, drugging, ignoring that a mother is pregnant and start abusing me in womb likely. 1976 kids….women Smoked, drank and didn’t care about prenatal care or it was new and not the standard yet.
Now my point…..if you think my birth story is unique or you feel Bad for me don’t because fentanyl, legal weed, schrooms, drugs and even RXmeds, all The processed, crap”food” we have lived on for over 100 years plus all the chemicals we consume, absorb through our skin every day are doing what women did to babies in womb for centuries-which is live like animals. By the civil war the Industrial Revolution was over. We got into the toxic chemical game and you can drop dead by something we can’t (Gen Z I mean, not me at 46) or don’t care…that with the rise of technology came rise in toxins. Neurotoxins. It was only 12-15 years ago that Autism rates were 1 in 400,500,600+. Today it’s less than 1 I’m 100 give or take. I finished my psych masters using the DSM-IV and now the new DSM-V has shown that autism with its new looser guidelines for diagnosis and an increase in knowledge, figuring out how to diagnose a kid who won’t talk, look T you and might be behavioral. Fragile-X syndrome is a medical condition that few people have heard of let alone be able to diagnose to the extreme that that person once approved by OPWDD will live off the “typical” population who can work and can contribute more with a low to mid 100’s IQ when you need to be no higher then 70 To be eligible for government $, services and protection. disabilities and intellectual disabilities too but, u can just use the history of lead paint use and Asbestos which fall into environmental issues and as we human Think we are god like because we are the top Species on earth and we still in 2023 have idiot kids who are taking big risks physically, emotionally and Health wise. My ADHD was so bad as a pre teen kid that when I see old home movies I would be diagnosed on the spectrum today (previously was called Asperger’s as I barely grad HS as my “parents” didn’t care if I did homework, studied, learned things…I now believe after my biology and poor genes (blood family I have info no names. Info like only 2 of 8 of my birth mother and aunts, uncles including my grandparents graduated high school. They all were manual labors. Only my birth father who wasn’t around and was not at hospital to see me born then give me up as opposed to going to liberal Clinics for a flushing of the pipes. 1976 abortions were like something out of a movie in the Middle Ages.
