Im quite elderly, already 85. Have been reading all messages for sometime that i thought might help my health conditions have been very impressed. I go back to July 21 when in hospital about to have a decompression Op for lower spine but not yet in Theatre, pulled aside to look at computer results of recent preop tests it said "needs a pacemaker". Op STOPPED". I move on to a visit to A & E Sept where I eventually see a consultant at midnight who luckily turns out to be a cardiologist and says," we will give you a pacemaker tomorrow!" I still know very little about pacemakers or even what they really do except that mine has been set to not let my hr go below 60 bpm. Moving on to May 22 another visit to A & E and an ECG taken in ambulabnce showed ventricular pacing. I have this record and it meant nothing to me at the time! I was sent home to arrange a 24Ecg monitor. This took a while and also for them to look at it but in September I suddenly get a call from Cardiac dept, "we are sending an email immediately to your doc saying that a presc for bisopopol and apaxiban which you must start taking immediately".

Sorry to be so long. Now in March 23 Iget out of breath all the time during the day trying to do any smsllest activity. Giddiness is also frrquently present and pressure in the head, legs/feet often feel numb. I use a walker outside because of the back.

Im not sure who to consult,ring my cardiac nurse,a doctor.

I also was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor which is a cm size but has nerve round it, I think the trigeminal nerve. Noone is advising me on this ive been adking to see Neurologist for some time! I think i may have mixed problems here.

Dear Japan

A warm welcome to your fist post and what a post it is.

Regardless of who you think you should contact about the way your feeling, please just start and get the ball rolling, call 111 or your Gp.

You have to remember that I am not medically trained but it certainly sounds like that you are suffering some of the side affects of the new heart medication that you have been placed on.

These drugs can be changed if needed and certainly if the side effects don't calm down, My main worry for you is that along with your other complaints it is making you unsteady on your feet which could lead to falls.

As for the pacemaker, please don't worry about that if they think that it will help improve your outlook , then take it, we can have that talk nearer the day.

My main reason to answer is please just don't just except the way you are and get help, I am sure that they can improve on your feelings with different medication.

Take care and please keep us informed.

Great news to hear that you are comfortable with having your pacemaker { same here }

I hope that you will get that help because you need a better quality of life, they will only know how your feeling if you tell them, otherwise they presume all is ok and pass you over for someone that has asked for help.

You are as valuable a person as anyone else.

Take care, you are in my thoughts

Hello Jaypan,I am nearly 85 and also have a few problems with heart and possibly now kidneys. Undergoing a few tests right now. i have had to battle a bit re kidneys with GPs practice to get things moving but I cannot tell you how much wonderful help/advice I have had from these very generous people on this site.Make sure you get all the help due to you from the medics.They will pass you over if someone else is 'shouting' louder so make sure you are heard.And do ask on this site for advice. It will be forthcoming .

On another note Jaypan. Cardiac nurses,the best of them, know a lot about their bosses job and often have 'a direct line' to him or her. So this is often a way to get answers to your cardiac problems without having to wait for ever for an appoint.

Thankyou, persevere is a great word to hold on to and the support thoughtful people give each other on this forum is wonderful. I was encouraged to ring my cardiac nurse. A positive result. Im to ring her in a weeks time when ive spoken to my doc as ive now had bloods taken for numerous tests and an uptodate picture of things!
