FED UP WITH BOWEL UNPREDICTABILITY

I think constipation generally means you cant go and its difficult . With me the urge for days is not even there …no inclination to even sit… After about 6 days its a tsunami.. and I never know where it is going to hit me . Starts with skinny movements and then Wham I am rushing to a toilet .Taking fibre just gives me gas and bloating and makes the interval uncomfortable . I am on Pred but have been on it for 3 years along with some heart meds but I really dont think its med connected.

Any thoughts?

hello any irregularities in bowel movements should mean a visit to your GP as soon as you are able. Especially if been happening for a while and is not normal for you. Wish you well and not trying to alarm you but you should seek medical help. Hope you get help soon.

if you like lentils make an easy soup with them as I get this issue due to Meds and find lentil soup is the thing that works! Message me if you want my super easy recipe 😘

If you don't think it's med related it should be discussed with your GP, you may just need a kick start to bring it back to some kind of regularity.

I have similar issues. I have started on Optibac, an over the counter gut bacteria thing and also was recommended to try 2000mg Vitamin C daily. It sounds a lot but its safe. Anyway that seems to be working. At least this week! Its so difficult to see a GP and I am put off contacting them as it needs to be a medical emergency at the minute.

thanks so much for your reply… will look into both those options

As already suggested, you definitely need to see your GP. In my case, constipation was caused by Ranolazine which slowed down my colon. In my case more it was 2 to 3days max. The GP prescribed Ducosate which you can get over the counter. I do have a Mediterranean diet (salad, veg and fruits everyday and lots of water). I reduced the dosage of Ranolazine by ro% and the proper disappeared. In your case, you need to have a chat with your GP.

I agree with fishface101 that this is something you should see your GP about, particularly if this is a recent change in your bowel activity pattern

However, i have recently had to see my GP about changes in my own bowel behaviour and was met with sympathy and blood tests but absolutley no useful suggestions, answers or resolution of any sort. My issue is settling but still recurs .

It may be helpful for you to look back and try to remember if there have been aby changes or events which might have triggered this: have you had any antibiotics which might have upset your gut flora, changed your diet or the amount of exercise you take?

The lack of urge to "go" sounds unusual, can you remember when this changed?

Giving this some thought before you see your GP (if you manage to get an appointment!) so that you are prepared with a clear picture. It can be difficult remembering everything during a brief appointment.

Good luck

I agree that if you think the problem is serious, and you are not coping, go and see your GP

I have had a similar problem, and I have tried Flax Seed, and it has helped. I kept the amount below the recommended, and only added 1 spoonful per helping added to my morning porridge serving. I did read a recommendation for Flax seed on this forum, and that helped sway me to try it.

Good luck in solving the problem.

Often it is a med which affects the automatic gut reactions, and can cause things to slow down, Buscopan is one, it might ease the cramps but it doesn't help with the transit! Dulcoease is gentle and helps absorb fluid to make more bulk, so the urge to go is there. You do have to drink more water but that's never a bad thing anyway!

Drink more fluids. A lot more, and see how it goes. You certainly want to avoid straining.

I have suffered with IBS for 12 years or so. Initially they did all the relevant tests and with no positive results said IBS. So that's the first thing to do.Given that it was not anything serious Insoluble fibre plus mebeverine just about does it for me.

I had a heart attack 2 years ago and the variation of meds makes it difficult to cope. For instance I have just started taking 20mg of rivaroxaban (for possible AF) and until I realised what was causing the pain and increased the intake of fibre I got little sleep.

Hi Darcy sounds like IBS. Ask your GP to refer you to a dietician. Ground linseed - the recommended amount daily- has helped me a great deal with a similar problem
