Faulty pacemaker

In November the doctor refered me to the hospital to check my 5 year old pacemaker on presenting symtoms of tirdeness and shorness of breadth coupled with an awareness of a pulse type feeling at the pacemaker. The pulse feeling went away after a few weeks but the tirdness etc remained.

Today at the hospital following a 24 hour monitor I was told my pacemaker was working in emergency mode as it was faulty with only one of the two leads working. It needs to be replaced and this is the reason for my feeling unwell. I was told a replacement will be scheduled in but no timescale was given and advised if any major problems get straight to hospital.

Does anyone have experience of a faulty pacemaker.

Hello :-)

This must have been a surprise to find this out but good that they have

Even though I do not have a pacemaker I would imagine they will get you in as soon as they can

People log on at different times sometimes missing posts but I am sure this will not be the first time something like this has happened

Let us know when you get a date and you have a brand new pacemaker which I hope will be really soon :-) x

Hello

Thanks for your reply it is much appreciated Over the last weeks knowing it was not operating properly has been a bit of a worry however I am please to let you know I had a new one fitted yesterday! It appears one of the two wires to the heart had broken causing the pacemaker to malfunction. The only thing I can think of to damage the wire was I had a fall earlier in the year and hurt my shoulder and arm quite badly. Although sore from the operation I am relieved knowing it is again working as it should.

Thanks again for your reply.

Hello :-)

I think you might have worked that out how it could have happened that fall sounds like it was quite a bad one and could I imagine broke them

But it was great to see your reply that you now have a new one all in good working order so pleased for you must be such a relief :-)

Relax and let that soreness heal and you should feel so much better :-) x
