8 weeks post triple bypass, still a bit tiered and certainly not eating right yet, walking is going ok trying to increase distance and speed, a phone appointment is booked with cardiologist next Thursday, been reading lots of post on hear my thoughts go out to the people especially the young who have problems at the moment, I never knew there were so many things can go wrong with the heart, I’m still struggling with my mental health have a phone appointment with talking therapies Friday afternoon, I would like to be eating better and certainly waking up in the mornings in a better frame of mind, it’s a very road to complete recovery.

Take care all

Pat

Hi Pat

I haven’t really got any advice as I’m new here but just want to say well done on getting out and walking more (particularly as the weather is so dreadful at the moment)

I hope you find the talking therapies helpful and keep making progress xxx

It’s the mental side giving me problems now,

Its still very early days for you and not helped by the dreadful weather. Our reaction to both events would be to go into hibernation. Its nearly 8 am and pouring with rain and still really dark. Its very difficult to motivate yourself under those conditions. So hang on in there, your mood will improve as your physical and mental health gets better and the first signs of spring start appearing. As regards walking going to a large garden centre with a coffee shop seems to help especially as all the christmas stuff has been cleared.

Very important to try and eat healthily; a mediterranean-type diet is recommended. Also, have you been offered Cardio rehab yet? If not, push for it. That will help greatly and the increase in exercise (slow & steady at first mind!) will get those lovely endorphins working and help the mental side too 👍All the very best in your recovery 🙂

You are still only at the start of your journey but not to worry you will get there, don’t over do the walking I tried to run before I could walk and it set me back. Things are so much better now 7 months post HT and quadruple bypass, but I’m still not the person I was and still have a road ahead. Cardiac rehab will be a big help and you need to see if they have a councillor if not go through the GP. I found it really helped but mentally I’m still not fixed so have started something called EMDR, I’ll let you know how it goes.

The big thing to remember is you are not alone everyone on here has been through it and anyone who says it hasn’t affected them mentally are lying and just trying to look Mr big and cool, it’s ok to feel like Mr wimp and need help there is no shame in it, I’ll openly admit I went from a 55 year old male with no mental health problem to someone who just kept bursting in to tears and not coping well at all. I think mine was so bad because there was no lead up to it it all came out of the blue, 55 years old, never smoked, don’t drink, vegetarian, thin and super fit, then bang Heart attack, quadruple heart bypass then another heart attack. I certainly couldn’t and no one else could believe it, even now I still don’t know why but it happened and life goes on we are alive and shouldn’t be so make every moment count.

Thanks Martin
