5 days post pacemaker battery change pain

hi, just wondering what others experiences are with pain/ discomfort post pacemaker battery change?

how long did it take to get to fully normal again ?

Looking at the patient information it as though it suggests this is a walk in the park and should be fully up and running again a few days later.

I would say on the whole i have quite a high pain threshold but I’m day 5 and every step hurts.

Ive been wearing decent bra night and day to help support everything.

I have taken regular paracetamol and ended up taking cocodamol at night time as uncomfortable every time I move.

I am increasing activity each day. It is slow going. All the big scary stuff appears fine, no signs of infection or heart trouble, it’s just painful.

I am off work this week but am going to struggle going back next week like this.

I had triple cabg 2013 which I suffer chronic pain syndrome from. Then I had cardiac arrest and a pacemaker fitted about six weeks ago, my device feels as if it has moved when I shower I can feel it in my armpit, mine is still tender and it irritates internally not on the surface, it has healed well and appears to be pacing ok as I’m still here !!!! I spoke to one of the nurses yesterday who was in the theatre and she said it was a bit difficult and took longer than usual to do and he was pushing so hard and long trying to position it, I think he gave up in the end and then connected the wires and then I ended up with a hole in my lung, now healed, im just praying I don’t have to go back for a redo 😱

Gosh, you have a had rough time of things. I hope the device beds in soon. Have you contacted the pacemaker/ICD clinic ? as I’m sure although they can move a little it shouldn’t be sitting in your armpit perhaps they could arrange an XRAY

I know to get my old battery took a bit of wrestling to remove and there’s a lot of surface bruising, so I’m assuming there’s equally if not more underneath which is probably adding to discomfort.

Pain is slowly easing but I do think the literature given on expectations of recovery are a little too optimistic esp when explaining to work colleagues.
