Hi all,

My dad had a triple by-pass on Friday 16th and come out on day 5 (he is now on day 7).

He was in hospital before that for just over 4 weeks to wait for the operation.

He is really struggling with anxiety and extremely low mood. His very emotional. We have never seen him like this before. Please can anyone help us. We have booked a doctors appointment to get some help mentally.

Thank you and I hope everyone is okay.

Hello :-)

Your Dad was in Hospital a long time 4 weeks waiting for his operation that must have had an effect on him and then once he had it he was out in 5 days which is quick but I suppose they like to where they can at this time of year get people home for Christmas

He has been through a lot of trauma and a life changing operation I had a triple Bypass and the emotions I went through and still am 16 months later at times were quite severe

You feel low , you feel tearful , depressed , frightened , anger why did this happen to me the list goes on it really does and I am not surprised he is feeling this way even though it must be frightening for you but he has to work through this he will recover physically but emotionally he has to recover to and that can be as hard as the physical recovery it really can

I am glad you have a Doctors appointment for him at this stage I think they may say something similar about how he is and you will have to ride this through with him , ask him if he wants to talk , be there for him knowing his reactions are all normal

Things will settle down but he needs time this is very very early days :-)

It would be nice to hear how he is getting on when you can and if you have anymore concerns or questions just ask and we will do our best to try and help

Hope you have the best Christmas you can :-) x

I too was in hospital for four weeks waiting for my bypass. They cancelled mine twice because of emergencies.I was there another two weeks after the operation.I couldn't wait to get home put my trainers on and get out walking. So get him out no matter what the weather. He will feel better straight away.x

Hi,

I myself was in hospital for around a month☹️after having my aortic valve replaced. I went through something very similar. I started questioning my mortality, cry at a drop of a hat, my confidence had hit rock bottom. I confided in the rehabilitation nurses and told them how I was feeling and they asked me, if I would like to speak to someone. I ended up speaking to a councillor who specialises in talking to heart patients. And having the support from my family. This help me a lot. It’s not a miracle cure in one day, but it help me realise that I’m only human and I will get better. I’m 11 months down the line now and feel ok, and yes I still have days. But I say to myself, who don’t have days feeling pants. Hope this help, keep supporting your Dad, it does help, you might not think so at times. But take it from me it does.

Try to enjoy your Christmas 🎅 there is light at the end of the tunnel

Hi Sidnie,As others have said, it's quite common to feel the blues after surgery. It's great that you have booked an appointment as speaking to a specialist will help. I am 4 weeks post surgery and find the small victories of progress really help, The family helps with the daily walking and we all celebrate when I do an extra minute. I also find it lifts me when we talk about plans of what to do and where to go when I'm fully recovered. Even little plans of nice things like a favourite dinner that I can have when I feel up to it. But it takes time and it's a big life changing event they've been through which will take some getting used to. Keep positive where you can and hope you have a lovely Christmas. Next year will be better!
