Risk of stroke after stent

Following HA in 2020, due to blocked RCA, Cardio interventionists tried to insert stent in 2020 but this procedure was unsuccessful. However, two cardio interventionists (at the same time) are going to try again early next year. The procedural risk includes 1:100 chance of a stroke. Generally, my condition is controlled with much medication though Cardio consultant told me that I will definately feel better after the procedure providing all goes well. I have difficulty balancing pro's and con's of the risks. My fear is that of having a stoke - I am absolutely terrified of this and I am considering postponing the procedure for another year.

Has anyone experienced stroke during or following a stenting procedure? Has anyone known someone who has not survived following a stenting procedure?

I will be grateful for any replies or information.

If you don't mind me asking, who gave you that risk figure?

The reason I ask is that it seems absolutely sky-high. I dug into angiogram/angioplasty risks before I had an angiogram, and I don't recall a risk anything like that. Of course it could be that you have particular circumstances, like multiple co-morbidities, that dramatically increases your own personal risk factor but 1:100 is an order of magnitude greater than the risks that I recall. One in a hundred is starting to get into open heart surgery levels of risk, and stenting is no where near that.

Hello :-)

Having a angiogram comes with a risk of a stroke though very low indeed yet without the procedure many of us on here would not be here as we would not know what treatment we needed so that very tint risk is well worth taking

Then when you get told you need stents or Bypasses as some do the tiny risk of a stroke appears again but if we do not have stents and Bypasses the risks of us having a massive heart attack and not surviving are very high

I know what fear feels like I feared when I had my angiogram and Bypasses but knew the needed to both be done

Please do not cancel it and go ahead with the stent see it more as a protection from something serious going wrong without having it done

There is a saying

There is nothing to fear but fear itself

Don't let that fear win :-)

Keep coming on for support and let us know how you get on :-) x
