What does a loop do apart from record your heart beat , is it necessary to have it fitted

loop fitted
I had mine fitted 1 week ago. 3 weeks ago, I experienced sudden seemingly-random serious reductions of consciousness over several days before I presented to A&E. Immediately put on Bisoprolol and monitored, I had no further attacks. Now discharged, the loop recorder is necessary to record my heart if/when I have another attack, so doctors can pinpoint the cause and treat it.
Hi, I’ve had one fitted since January because I kept passing out during the night. I later had a heart attack and two cardiac arrests in July. I know it couldn’t have predicted what was going to happen that day but was quite surprised that nobody from cardio department contacted me afterwards regarding the loop recordings. I later got in touch with them to ask about it and make sure it was still working and they stated they don’t look at the recordings unless you specifically ask for them so maybe that’s worth keeping in mind.
I’ve since made a couple of manual recordings and then asked them to look into it which they have. This was good for my peace of mind when all was ok.
Yes. I had random blackouts for 20 years. Had angiograms, ultrasounds etc. Couldn't find out what the issue was. Had another blackout on 2018 that ended up in A&E with concussion. Referred to cardio, fitted loop, had a wobble in the garden 3 weeks later, pushed the actuate button to upload the data and 5 minutes later had a call from the hospital telling me not to drive and an urgent appointment was being scheduled. Had a pacemaker for and have not blacked out since. Turns out I had a random synchopy issue whereby my heart chambers would get out of synch and the heart would stop until they got back in synch. The pacemaker sorted it out but without the loop they would never have found the issue.
