Time of taking medication

I have never been a morning person but for the last few years HATE getting out of bed in the mornings and I never get up feeling refreshed.

I take 9 different pills a day for my heart, my diabetes and my stroke and do wonder if swapping around my medication may help.

Has anyone successfully changed around the times they take their medication and felt more 'with it' in the mornings?

I am going to try it anyway after reading up on the medication I take, but wondered if anyone had found this works.

Thanks for the reply, I am going to check if any are time sensitive if not I'm going to take most of them in the early part of the day.

Dear You,

Yes Yes Yes with out a doubt changing some of my meds from morning to evening taking improved my life and very quickly.

Grab your Dr { yes I know } and ask for a drug review you will be surprised what you can change around / get rid of or change

We will soon have you joining the annoying smiley wakey wakey group that I am a member of { but am in bed by 9 ! can't have it both ends of the clock }

Take care

Thank you, sleep is a difficult thing, I can't get to sleep easily and then can't get up. Hopefully a change around in meds will fix this.

Hi Heather - I take bisoprolol, clopidogrel, lanzaprazole and ezetimebe with my first cuppa of the day first thing in the morning but changed taking the aspirin to just before evening mealtime (found it helped with the indigestion it's always caused me throughout the day!). Sorry, I'm not much help I'm afraid. I've heard lots of good things about people changing their various meds times though. My brother now takes his statin just before bed and it's erradicated a lot of the aches & pain he used to feel through the day - Carol

I no longer have to take aspirin but I take Clopidogrel, Lanzaprazole, Ezetimebe and Bisoprolol. At the moment I take the Lanzaprazole and Bisoprolol in the morning to start my day along with an antibiotic (long term) I take the Ezetimebe, Clopidogrel, Atorvastatin, sitagliptin and Jardiance (for diabetes) at night. I don't think anyone told me what time to take these tablets but I think I need to research if there is a recommended time and see if that helps.

Thanks for your reply I know we are all different.

You're right you know Heather, on reflection no-one ever told me when to take mine either and I've just looked at the chemist's labels on the boxes and there's no 'time' indication on those either. I was always given them first thing in the morning in while in hospital for five weeks pre-bypass in February this year and just continued with the routine. I've to take the clopidogrel & lanzaprazole for one year only so those two will be stopped in February 2023. Good luck with the research and I really hope you find a solution to the morning tiredness.

Hi Heather,

I hope that you find an improvement in your mornings by adjusting the time that you take your medication. I experimented a bit when I was first put on medication, but found little difference other than I was prone to forget those I was taking later in the day. Whetger this affected the results, it's impossible to know.

I now take all my medication with my breakfast cereal (soluble aspirin last), all followed by a cup of tea. I can then get on with my day. I do this regardless of what I am doing during the day, so the medication can be taken any time between 2 a.m. (before driving up to Scotland to go hill walking) and 9 a.m. (a lazy day). I find it is what I am doing during the day that dictates how alert I am in the morning, particularly so since retirement! It's amazing how focussed I can be at 2 a.m, 😀

All the best,

Gerald

Taking the previous comments about time-sensitive meds into account, I now take some meds in the morning and some at night...eg apparently, statins should be taken at night.

So, what I do is I set out the day's meds a day in advance, into 2 small pots: morning and evening. Then, come morning, i can get up and just grab the morning pot while the all-important kettle is boiling. Works for me.😀
