Hi

When I sleep at night I'm noticing that I wake up with my arms above my head ,wondering if this could be why I'm feeling pain around chest wound,I'm 5 weeks post op and still sleep propped up but I tend to slide downwards during the night ,also any ideas when safe to lie on my right side ,I've started small bhf cardio exercises via YouTube beginning by sitting in a chair

arms above head could well be a painful issue.

I used five pillows arranged around me to keep me sitting upright. Then I used a rolled up blanket (ran out of pillows) under my knees and this helped me keep upright by stopping my sliding down the bed.

When I could eventually lie down it was wonderful ! But we have to recover first.

I think about the effort made by the cardiac staff and this encouraged me to keep to the suggested rules.

Best wishes

Sooty

Dear Charl70

Oh the luxury of being able to lift your arms above your head, either in sleeping or just a good old stretch is something that I now realise I took for granted, and no doubt as my recovery continues, I will do again.

You are to new on your journey to be able to do this movement properly yet, and well done for getting to this stage,

believe me everyday under your belt post op is a great day.

remember with your wounds that it not just the outside bits that we see but all the internal ones as nerves and muscle begin to re-knit.

You are doing well, carry on with your exercises , rest and slowly the days will pass and so will your pains.

Take care.

It was 6 weeks before I managed to sleep on my side and then only on my right. It took a further month to be able to cope with sleeping on my left side and even now 4+ years on, I am more comfortable on my right.
