I was diagnosed with aortic stenosis in the severe stage in May I have been on bendroflurizide for high blood pressure for years. In September my blood pressure was down to 100/75 so the GP stopped them. It has stayed stable since at 130/70 lower than it was when I was on the meds Is this usual? Has it happened to anyone else on the forum ? I am pleased to be off a med but find it is puzzling after years of being told if I stopped the meds it would go up.

Blood Pressure
Hi Cappachina. I also have been diagnosed with aorta stenosis, and just started on blood pressure meds. I have put on 2 stone in weight in 8 months mainly due to other meds and would like to know if you can exercise with aorta stenosis.
Hi I was told to walk as much as I could but to stop and rest when I was tired or breathless
I am also in 2 choirs and was told that was good for my heart too but again to stop if breathless . It may depend on how severe your stenosis is and what kind of exercise you are planning on doing. I think you should check in with Doc as to the best exercise for you as you may be at a different stage to me
Sorry to hear about the weight gain as that is not good for you but lots of tablets do that to you You need to discuss this with the Doc too and ask for
I have been monitored for AS for about 15 years now & on blood pressure tablets & diuretics until summer 2021 when my BP dropped & dropped to a level where I could not stand up without pre-syncope. My echo showed upper moderate stenosis then.
My gp withdrew diuretics & then halved my bp meds & I continued until this summer when my echo showed sudden deterioration to severe stenosis. My cardiologist couldn't understand why it had progessed so rapidly in a year.
Maybe withdrawal of the bp meds, which increased my bp to level where I could function but not high, accelerated the stenosis. Just guessing?
Hi there! 🙂
Cutting a long story short, I had severe aortic stenosis diagnosed after an MRI, probably due to the bicuspid aortic valve they found. I’d also been on bendroflumethiazide for some time, but after an aortic valve replacement my blood pressure had dropped well inside the ‘normal’ limits. Subsequent research, out of my own interest, highlighted that there appeared to be some relationship between stenosis and higher blood pressure.
After a while however, my BP rose again but Ramipril (ACE Inhibitor as opposed to Bendro diuretic) immediately brought it down again.
So with stenosis, I might have expected that your BP might have been on the higher side, so probably best to get your GP to better understand your ‘cause and effect’ relationship and to provide you with the appropriate guidance / treatment / other, ass appropriate.
All the best - Mark 🙂👍🙏
