Hello :-)

I have not had this done others that have when they see your post will be able to tell you all abut it but I did watch it been done and it seems safe and quite simple and the patients said they did not feel anything and felt so much better after so all sounds positive :-)

Let us know how you get on when you have had it done :-) x

Yes, I've had cardioversions many times. I know it will sound odd to you, but I like having them for the instant relief they bring. I'm so grateful to feel well again afterwards that I could weep. Take care afterwards though and do not exert yourself at all for a week or so as it's so easy to slip back into AF. I once climbed a steep hill the next day and went straight back into AF. Too late to be sorry you did that then.

hi. I had a cardioversion in February and have stayed in sinus rhythm ever since. I am on a hefty dose of bisoprolol though. I had a general anaesthetic for the cardioversion and didn’t feel a thing. The only slight side effect was like sunburn where the electrodes had been but it was worth it to stop the atrial flutter that I had. Hope it goes well for you x

I had a CardioVersion in March after being in AFib for 6 months. It does work otherwise it wouldn't be offered. However, my consultant strongly advised against drinking alcohol nor caffeine as these two alone increase the risk of AFib. Ive lost 2 stone in the process. After a CVersion you will have two slight itchy burn marks where the probes have been which will fade after 2-3 days. Do not use lotion or moisturiser cream. These are slight burn marks so use after sun lotion to relieve any discomfort. Otherwise totally painless & quick and in and out of hospital in the morning

Ongoing I'm on 1.25mg of Bisoprolol daily.

Hope that helps. All the Best

Hi redcorsa, I've had irregular heart beat for 30 years. The condition has never compromised my ability to enjoy life. Currently I'm prescribed rivaroxaban to thin blood in order to minimise any fly away blood clots. So far so good.

I should have added that the electric shock treatment lasted 24 hrs and then the heart reverted to a syncopated beat. "I got rhythm."

I had a Cardioversion late last year which was successful. The surgical unit team was excellent and everything was very efficient as I think they carry out the procedure daily. When I came to I felt so peaceful after months of continuous palpitations. Alas in March this year I stupidly overdid things on a walk when I struggled to keep up with the group’s pace and should have stopped - or not gone on a 5 mile walk in the first place! I slipped into AFib and it’s been persistent since then which is really wearing. Have further Cardioversion coming up in early November and this time, although I keep fit walking a dog every day, it’s at an easy pace and I wont be going on any route marches!

I had Cardioversion in August, and whilst in hospital all good, when I left AFib kicked back in, everyone is different, was painless, just the burn marks were uncomfortable, sunburn cream with aloe vera helped.

hI, I've had a few of these and, as others have said, it's painless and you'll be home the same day.

i had it done last year. The procedure itself, for you as a patient, is positive. They are resetting your heart to attempt to achieve a normal sinus rhythm. If it is needed please have it done.

my heart had become erratic after COVID. It needed fixing.

Hi, I had mitral and aorta valve replacements at the Bristol Heart Institute in April, but was getting irregular heart beats as well as severe breathlessness, especially at night.

They called me in for Cardioversion - less than half a day’s treatment.

They will ask you not to take some of your medication on the morning before.

It’s under general anaesthetic and is a five minute procedure. You should get tea and a biscuit afterwards and, after an hour or so, you can go home. Must have someone to collect you.

It worked well for me, although it still took some time to get over my breathlessness.

Don’t worry about it.
