Bloodshot eye

I ventured to the swimming pool yesterday for the first time since my NSTEMI in February. When I came out I had a heavily bloodshot eye, with what looks like a burst blood vessel. Still looking bad this morning, and I suspect it has been made worse by the Clopidogrel. Has anyone else experienced similar? Did you get attention for it? Thanks in advance!

Your red eye may have been caused by the Clopidogrel you are taking. I am guessing you are also taking low dose aspirin too.

The advice for your condition is here

"red eye" happens to all sorts of people and usually clears up on it's own, but taking anticoagulants means you are more like to develop it from time to time - my husband and several other people i know have it occasionally and it always clears up, but it can be a bit scary the first time

the NHS info suggested by LowerField is helpful

hey! I’ve had this :) I just woke up like it one day - didn’t look great! I’m on aspirin and clopidogrel which is what caused it. It went away by itself but the GP said to get in touch if it didn’t clear in 3 weeks but it did. Xx

Suggest you get an optician to have a look if you are worried and certainly if your eye is painful or you have blurring of vision. A sub - conjunctival haemorrhage does take a while to clear.

When this happened to me, during Covid, I had a telephone consultation with our GP. His first concern was that me BP was OK, we had a monitor so I checked my BP and he called me back for the result. My BP was fine. He told me to give it two or three days and if my eye hadnt started to clear I had to go to the surgery, it started to clear up and no action was needed.
