Endocrine - low blood sugar.

I recently posted in this group about my low blood sugar going as low as 1.9 mmol and often posted about my unusual heart rate , blood pressure.

Just spoke with cardiologist. Although GP reduced my dapagfloxin, the cardiologist states that it only reduces blood sugar if over 10mmol, so not going to be that drug. BUT we are stopping it for a short while to inform the GP that it is not that causing the low bs. BTW: I had another three episodes in past week. Awful symptoms.

So he thinks I maybe suffering from a very rare endocrine problem so we need to urgently get this checked out Interestingly this could also be why my heart rate is also incredibly low, measuring 25bpm yesterday after that episiode for three hours as well as low BP.

Being a lifelong Type1 diabetic I have gone to numerous support groups and lectures. I think it may be possible that you have a condition called Reactive Hypoglycemia (RH). This causes blood sugar levels to drop after meals (anything between 2 and 5 hours). This overproduction if insulin is treated the same way as Type II by a low carb diet as a higher carb intake triggers the production of excess insulin and hence the hypos. Hope this is of interest, and maybe help.

Not sure as often like 2.1 mmol after fasting , first thing in the morning.. Thanks for replying... Already have a low carb balanced diet.. cardiologist said to do with hormones and extremely rare. Open to any ideas though, but probably best to wait for tests.. Although as I said I get it first thing but not always, I also have started getting it after walking less than a mile in middle of day about a week ago. Yesterday particularly intense after a small amount of digging about 5pm. That was one of the worst yet. Felt like death was near and so hungry suddenly, sweating profusely, heavy breathing etc . My heart failure could be giving dual symptoms I suppose

Hi, I hope they sort it out soon for you. Can’t help but feel for you since you can’t seem to be able to get out and about without consequences. Keep positive .

Yes thanks. I manage a few climbs now too since I had to change from Bisoprolol to Ivabradine in November ( although I still have a few duvet days when I’ve done too much). Life changer for me. Goes to show that a drug may not be suitable after 3 years. Change can be good.

I had to come off the Dapagliflozin after 3 weeks of very low BP and blood sugar. I felt terrible and am slowly - after 2 weeks creeping back to my normal. Strangely despite feeling so ill I could recognise that the Dapagliflozin was helping some of my heart failure symptoms. So it is a concern I can’t tolerate it for whatever reason.I wish you all the best with getting some answers and hopefully feeling much better soon.

Hi Prestwick. Hope you sort your problems out. From today I am off it after 18 months, but I too am concerned as it is good for heart, but sounds like its more to convince the GP. The cardio consultant definitely knew his stuff, so who am I to argue. :) I will let you know how I get on...
