Hello Shellac,

If you have chestpain at rest or other symptoms you feel maybe heart related, it's important to be reviewed by a healthcare professional.

Possible unstable angina is something that shouldn't be ignored.

I suggest you give 111 a call?

Do say how you get on.

Hi Shellac,

I have unstable angina too, and its very nature means you can be at rest when you get an attack or angina pain. I sympathise.

My son had to call an ambulance recently for me, as I woke with an angina attack and my GTN spray didn't work. I took another spray before the ambulance came, spray worked so I cancelled the ambulance. At the follow-up appointment with the Doc she referred me back to Cardiology. (Side note - my letter from them says there is a fifty-four week waiting time!)

Do you use your GTN spray, and does it work for you?

I hope you get on well at your appointment; please let us know how it goes.

Best thoughts 😊

I had stable angina which over 10 years became unstable angina. Absolutely no problem most of the time. A couple of times it happened at rest then one night in bed I had severe should and back pains and for the first time ever took a puff of spray which immediately cleared the problem.

I had always thought of the spray as the last line of defence so in the morning phoned the GP. As I was 27th in line I very nearly gave up as I felt fine and it was a nice sunny morning.

I persisted and to cut a long story short went under my own steam to the assessment unit at the local hospital and didn't leave it for 12 days by which time I had a quadruple bypass as the angiogram found I was virtually totally blocked.

We are all different, but to yourself and to Shellac I would suggest it needs checking out much sooner than in 54 weeks. It may be nothing that medicine won't easily control but GP's generally are not that up on heart problems but they can be influential in getting you in front of a cardiologist quickly if they are concerned

I suggest you remember any incidents, the circumstances (times and what you were doing, such as eating) and write them down together with any questions as cardiologists can be quite intimidating and sometimes appear a bit offhand.
