My husband has been on the same drug and dose for about 10 years because he couldn't take statins, and has had no trouble at all.

I take 10mg of Ezetemibe too as I can't take statins. I have no problems taking it.
Hey! I’m on both statins and this drug (they REALLY wanted my cholesterol down) and I’m absolutely fine on it x
I've been taking Ezetemibe for 4 years with no side effects that can be linked to it. I'm on a cocktail of heart drugs so it's difficult to say honestly but I know the side effects of other meds like Bisoprolol.
I took this medication and after a year a blood test showed that (for me) it had zero effect on my cholesterol. It was prescribed by my GP because I couldn't take Atorvastatin, Pravastatin or Simvastatin. However, I am now on 10mg Rosuvastatin (initially started on alternate days) without any issues. This was prescribed by the pathologist at my local hospital rather than my GP. I have no idea why he didn't try me on it and it took another health professional to intercede - maybe cost! 😯
Hi- I have it along with my statin - no issues at all
I stopped Statins after side effects after 20yrs (peripheral neuropathy). I have taken Ezetemibe (and other meds) for years now with no obvious side effects.
Hi, I’ve been on it for a year after my triple bypass with no problems whatsoever, I too cannot take statins..though not dramatically changing figures ….the bad LDL slightly improved and it did seem to raise the good cholesterol (results last week ) so better than nothing!
Sadly, I had a rare allergic reaction to this drug. I broke out in hives. Everything else I've ever taken has been fine.
Good morning. I had painful side effects on several different statins then Ezitimibe was also added into the mix. Didn’t work for me I’m afraid as my body can’t tolerate statins or the add on pill. Now on injections fortnightly .. not a statin…. And cholesterol has dropped dramatically over six months from 8/9 to 3. Everyone is different and it’s a case of trial and error
Interesting. What ‘injections’ please? I feel inordinately better having stopped statins (agreed with gp etc etc) but I need to discuss future options with him or accept my high cholesterol count.
I’m on Praluent. I have the hereditary cholesterol so diet alone made not a jot of difference. Was on 75g to start with great reduction in levels down to 3 but cardiac consultant has doubled the dose to 150g as he wants my cholesterol down below 2. Pretty drastic I thought but he thinks it’s important. No harm in asking your GP.
Many thanks!
Hello
Just been recommended to try this, I tolerate Statins but they don't appear to work very well, my levels have stayed around the same after 6 months on the Statins
Regards
As I said in previous comment we are all different but I cannot believe the difference these injections have had in me. HA in Aug 2020 and couldn’t get a stent as I have a serious allergy to the intravenous dye used in that procedure. More or less on meds to save me. That done was put straight onto high dose Atorvastatin …. I couldn’t walk the pain was that bad. Anyway there’s more to it than that but back to the point. These injections have made such a huge difference to me and I have never felt better. Plus stopped smoking from date of HA ( thought I’d struggle with that but didn’t ) breathing is amazing. Stamina is much improved.
In response to my complaint that another cardio had prescribed a high dose of amiodarone in response to my reporting some (fairly moderate) arrhythmic episodes, my second opinion cardio (now my regular), having updated the usual tests, cancelled the toxic amiodarone and raised my atorvastatin daily dose from 10 to 40mg. That was problematic too!
So now I have been on 10mg of ezetimibe and 10 of atorvastatin and he raised my bisoprolol daily dose from 2.5 to 5mg (I also continue to take a bit of aspirin and clopidogrel). He has found a combo that causes me no discernible problems, other than continuation of a bit of night-time butt-trumpeting if I go for a pee :-).
Triple heart bypass 3 years ago. No real problems now, but I do have to watch out for my ectopic heart beats lest they become more than irregular/minor. I've cut my alcohol way down and also maintain a lower dose of pain relievers than I would otherwise care to do (having to sort out my back and osteoarthritic hips).
In October last year I had to have 2 stents fitted but the arteries had to be drilled as they were so clogged up. Even though my Cholesterol levels were fine on paper, they increased my Atorvastatin to 80 mgs they also put me on 10 mgs Ezetimibe and TBH I have had no problems with them, my Cholesterol has dropped right down at last check.
My wife has been diagnosed with high cholestorol she has tried statins once before and they made her really ill....but our practice nurse keeps telling her there is no alternative.
I have been trying statins for nearly 20 years- I don’t get on with them. Brain fog and fatigue are biggest issues. My GP decided to try me on Ezetimibe as it works differently, and also referred me to a consultant for genetic testing as suspects I have FH. The consultant did not think Ezetimibe alone would do a lot…. But after just 3 months my levels are the best they have ever been and I have no issues taking them! Just awaiting the genetic screen results now which take 3 months.
