how is everyone doing today ? Are you all managing to keep cool and drinking enough ? I’m in Scotland and although it’s not as warm here , my house is a sun trap and the temperature out my back door right now is 36 . Weather ap says it’s 26 . 😂🙄🙄☄️ . Hope you are all doing ok , I’ll be honest I’m suffering, three fans on in the living room , blinds curtains shut , cats kept indoors since 1 pm .

for tonight has anyone got any tips , my blinds curtains closed in bedroom, again fan in there , also have a cooling mat to lay on and another for my neck .

anyway I hope you are all ok . Keep cool 😎 hearties

A bowl of ice in front of the fan helps, feet in a bucket of water, damp towel around any part of your body that you can,

My sister rubs an ice cube on her wrists and swears by it, { didn’t do a lot for me and it ended up in my feet water ! }

Take care, the sad thing is that it will pass as quick as it came.

Just arrived in Ibiza, being Scottish it's a tad warm here! Cooking I think describes it, on the plus side we have the med and Aircon to cool us down, thank goodness

What a thought lol

Hello :-)

In my garden at lunch time it was 104 I have not looked since

In the house it is reading 28.5 and you have guessed it I am not coping at all

I get Asthma to and like you I have 2 fans in the room another in the hallway and another in the kitchen and same going of upstairs and my garden is South facing and this house you could use it as a green house

I do not like this one bit !

What t do tonight million dollar question

Get some empty bottles put water in them , freeze them and put them in front of your fans that helps the fans to blow cooler air

You seem to have all the other things covered what you can do

My bathroom is the coolest I might sleep in the bath tonight !!!

Some say freeze your sheets but then I think well not a bad idea but then your bed will get wet when they start thawing out

I heard a really weird one today where it says lick your wrists I thought forget that and there was also eat a hot curry not to sure about that either :-)

I hope everyone is keeping safe and look out for tips what we do tonight :-) x

Good morning RufusScamp! I agree! I've been applying cold damp flannel on my wrists, forehead, back of my neck..but! I need to hold them, so I devised a rather primitive method this morning:Wrapped 3 ice cubes in a damp flannel and attached it around my left wrist with a rubber band! 🤣🤣🤣

I can do things, it's not falling off. 👍

Problem is it will be melting and dripping everywhere in a short while...

I hope I will survive today and wish for all the hearties here the same.

Tomorrow is a cooler day, thank goodness!

I have slept in baths before now to escape from my husband’s snoring when in hotels. Also bathroom floors. Good luck for today cos it is due to be worse. The temp in our house yesterday was 32C in spite of all my opening and shutting windows, curtains, and doors but glory be I am so lucky cos I had aircon installed in my bedroom and retreated up there.

in reply toGrannyE

Hello :-)

You did make me laugh you have before because of Husbands snoring :-D Mine snores to we had to sleep in separate rooms could not cope with the heat and him snoring as well :-D

Hope you are doing alright it is so hot here already :-)

Yes I am fine and feeling fortunate thank you cos have retreated to my bedroom with its aircon and am in a more comfortable 27C.We too now have separate bedrooms cos there is no way I can cope with his snoring - had to take a recording of his snores before he would believe me. I need to have uninterrupted sleep to function optimally.

in reply toGrannyE

Hello :-)

So envious you have air conditioning :-)

Glad you are more comfortable though :-)

You made me smile again as my Husband says he does not snore to which I reply why would I be waking you up to say you are snoring at all different hours if you were not !

My Son tells him as he can even here him when he is in a different room and we have taped him and he says that is not me :-D

We say who is it then !

Might make different rooms permanent even after the heat wave if it works :-)

Hope you have a lovely day :-) x

Hello BK. I keep threatening to record my husband - it's not so much snoring as all the snorts, snuffles, pops, huffing, puffing... and then he goes quiet, and I have to prod him to make sure he's still breathing!

in reply toAlison_L

Hello :-)

I have that to as well as the snoring and made me laugh at your description :-D

Sorry about this reply chaps so maybe you should not read it. Don’t want to cause offence and be banned! I am whispering this very quietly so cover your ears.

I find with my husband he is sometimes like a small child standing there with jam all over their face saying ‘it was not me I did not do it’. Stout denial can a great general principle!

On a totally different scale it is one in which Putin devoutly believes too.

in reply toGrannyE

The heat is not affecting your sense of humour :-D

I find with my Husband nothing is ever his fault I often ask what is it like to be so perfect :-) x

Funny story , I got up today and there is marks all over the kitchen wall beside the bin , like a spray of something, so I asked the husband’ Kevin’s what’s that on the wall beside the bin did you drop something?’ Him . ‘ no what do you mean ?? He looks at it and says ohhhh well I’m due to paint it anyway’ …… wtf!! Men

Camp out in the living room downstairs, that’s what I’m doing with the kids, bit cooler down stairs in our house, upstairs is horrific. But all depends on your house I guess. And feels like a slumber party.

Think I am lucky we still have two sperate rooms downstairs. In the morning the lounge gets the sun, so draw the curtains and use the dining room, that gets the sun in the afternoon, so we draw the curtain in there then and move into the front. Have had my feet in a bowl of cold water too. Should be having a haircut tomorrow at 3pm 4 miles away, not sure if I still want to go.

Watered the garden ( mostly watering can rather than hose), greenhouse and allotment from 6.30 this morning, had to do the greenhouse again at lunchtime and just done again.

After then it was closed curtains (like the neighbours) I ventured out of the front door when we had the Asda delivery at 1.15 and it was like a furnace outside.

To be honest and surprised, thought it would be a lot worse on me than it has, I put that down to three personal reasons - I have never liked it hot anyway, do take more precautions now (no formal exercise since Saturday, and hope to start again on Wednesday), and my meds are working really well.

Hope you all get a good nights rest where ever you are.

I found my cucumber plants on the conservatory window sill c ompletely limp at 10am despite watering them very late last night. Tangled round the blind cords it was too hot to stay here and untangle them. Had to do it in bits. The one ripe cucumber was cooked. They seem to have recovered.

The thermometer was in the shade well out of the sun and facing away from it. The thermometer itself may not be accurate of course. How do They know what each individual temperature in every place is? They cannot. They are only going by what their weather stations say at a certain number of spots.

It's only meant to hit 36⁰ today, I'll confess to buying a portable air con unit, so me and the 3 dogs are shut away in the darkened living room, tis about 23⁰ in there, we've got a South facing garden, with a tall hedge all the way round, so it's a massive suntrap, we've also got a really old conservatory with a polycarbonate roof, so that's like a green house at the moment (perfect in the winter as on a sunny winter's day it heats the whole of the downstairs, not so good this time of year), the bedrooms have all got ceiling fans, which are fab at night x Other than that, I've got no other suggestions, except for doing as little as possible x

I rely on mine for shopping as I'm housebound but it was off this morning; no lights on the router and went off yesterday. I blamed the heat and router overheating but it's only 19c today.

I have heard that a huge bowl of ice placed in front of fan helps some....there are also you tube videos for making "air conditioners" with foam coolers, ice and fan. It is in 90s here in Pennsylvania, US... but so far we are using fans at night...bring in cool air, shutting windows in the worst part of day....

You’ve got to remember that temperatures on the apps are taken in the shade

Well night of day 1 was difficult but once again can't say it was any worse than when I was well.

Today the heat has certainly notched up to 11. managed the greenhouse this morning but no way was there going to be a walk to the allotment.

Very little energy today, even found it hard to read any length of time, (no problems with the heart which I know of though as I have said before really hot weather has never agreed with me).

Hopefully it's on the turn now expecting a cooler night and getting back to normal tomorrow.

I was a bit jealous when I heard they had rain in Taunton this morning that held the cricket up.

Glad I coped with the experience as I am afraid I don't expect this will be a one off.

If you can put your feet in a bowl of cool water it will help as I believe we have 24 pulse points in our feet and these can transport the cool blood up elsewhere and especially to the heart. Also we have "chilly towels" from Amazon and you soak them in cold water and put them on your head, ankles or wherever you wish and it bring your body heat and temperature down.

Our forecast said it's supposed to drop to 18 or 19 from 10pm tonight. NO sign of it yet although outside is c ooler than inside. Leaving window open last night was a mistake. Neighbour has a new car that beeps very loudly when he reverses the full length of our garden, house, front garden and road long before my alarm goes off. Sounds like a bus reversing. We may have words before long to see if he can turn it off.
