Hallelujah!!!, at last my OH has a date for her procedure to close an open wound in her abdomin.

She had a feeding peg removed February last year, was told it would close by itself within a couple of days and here we are over 15 months later and it's still open, still leaking between 100 & 300ml per day and requiring a daily visit from a nurse to clean and redress it.

So, 1 month from today and she's in 👍😁 unless they cancel of course 🤨

I know it's not heart related but I've seen people posting on here about nothing happening and feeling forgotten by the health service, that's how the OH has been feeling too but at last she's been remembered, so, don't give up. 👍

You are a member that helps and supports so many on here and yet behind all this you have so much to cope with in your personal life by looking after your wonderful wife which I know even though you do not mind one bit what hard work it is for you and the worry it must bring with it to

This is great news and we need to hear good news on here whatever it maybe and it could not be happening to a nicer lady ( your wife ) making her lovely Husband ( you of course ) feel relief and happy

I have everything crossed they do not cancel and I am not religious but I shall keep asking if there is a power greater then please make sure this procedure goes ahead for you and your wife you have waited long enough and both deserve it x

Thank you for your kind words. It's been pretty traumatic to be honest. Luckily I'm a fairly calm person who has certainly been tested over the last 15 months. I know the NHS is under pressure but so have I been, like many who post here seeking advice etc. It's a great forum with some very caring and knowledgeable people."lovely husband" 😂 I try 👍

When we are sick it is awful but I think careers can get missed what a wonderful job they do and for so many every day of the year so I know the pressure you must feel at times no matter how calm you are

Thank you Silvertail, The support on here is brilliant, sometimes we are in a bad place, sick with worry of the unknown. There are some very supportive and knowledgeable people on here.There might be an odd little hiccup with a response at times, but people will be people, you just have to ignore it 😁

Hi griff64. I am so pleased to hear this news. When you have mentioned this situation in previous posts I have felt so angry and sorry for your wife and you. It is such a short sighted approach to an issue that could have been solved some time ago and avoided upset and additional work for you as a dedicated carer. It is another symptom of a system that is broken.Best wishes to you both x

Goodness me, 15 months, that's absolutely ridiculous! It's a good job that it didn't develop into something worse. It should have been dealt with straight away. All the inconvenience and hassle your OH has had to endure... and yourself of course. Let's hope it is sorted once and for all next month.

It certainly has been an ordeal. Early last year I was left to look after it with virtually no help, I contacted the department that had dealt with it in hospital, asking for some help and was told they would get back to me, they never did.I knew then that this was going to be a real fight, and it has been.

My wife had that.... never did get the results of a gastrostomy. Gave up in the end....kept on taking the Omeprazole. 😀

I think half the population is taking some type of PPI, including the OH and myself 👍

I'm in the "fortunate" half of the population... I'm allergic to them! 😂 Same for diuretics as loop and thiazide diuretics strip out my potassium. I have to have a potassium sparing diuretic like Amiloride - and they don't like it as it's against protocol. 😯

I am religious and I will pray for you and OH. My modern church has windows through which I see a lovely tree and that’s where prayers will be given. Peaceful, sunny and prayers do work.

I do hope the op goes ahead on time.

The real Black cat Sooty has been very pawly and yesterday I ventured to the vets expecting a rejection. But no, lots of vets back on duty, they carried out the procedure and now my adored cat is back to his cheery self. Two weeks rehab required but he doesn’t know that.

So sorry missed you post, not that I can add a lot to other replies except to hang my head in shame that another human being has had to suffer so.

I pray that all goes well with the surgery and that you both can at lest put this part behind you.

Its a sad story that we hear often repeated, but that is no consultation for the pair of you that have waited your turn for so long.

Blue1958 thank you for your kind words.We're certainly hoping the procedure will work because its not going to be repeated if it doesn't, that thought is a bit scary.

There must be so many people in the same situation, not knowing how long they will have to wait.

I did remember to pray for you at about 11.30 this morning. It was a dull service so easy to reflect on other matters such as your wife. And to give a thank you that my cat is much improved. December 2015 i had a stroke and my life was ebbing away. Huge crash team surrounded me and all I could think about was wondering if that paddle thing will hurt. I travelled back through my life then for whatever reason I came back to the hospital. Apparently 140 were praying for me at Sunday morning service. Gosh those were the days 100+ at church. Just 30 today.

And the power of prayer, I know can have a huge influence and be very comforting. 140 people praying for you obviously worked.

I’ve been a Complementary Therapist for 25years and feel so for those not able to obtain the care that is essential. I’m not a nurse but do have qualifications in some cases equal to. Do not take NO for an answer, I’m sad to say you have to be an outright pain in the asp to get what’s right for you. My elder sister was fobbed off for years about her aortic aneurysm and the inevitable happened. I will send healing for you both 💗

You're 100% right, I've found over a period of time that being a pain in the backside is the only way to get anything done.I've got to be quite good at it 😅

It’s a disgrace and should not have been allowed to continue that long.Nurses have an advocate role and should have been pressing colleagues to attend to this problem which is an infection waiting to happen. I hope the nurses were pushing for action otherwise the word negligence comes to mind.

This whole episode has been quite traumatic at times, especially for my OH, the department in hospital responsible for the procedure have shown little or no interest, the community nurses kept telling me that I should be taking care of the leak, cleaning and redressing up to 3 times a day, but I stood my ground and reminded them that my OH had been discharged into their care when the peg was removed and I would take no further part in it.Eventually, after the community nurses manager spent an hour at our home, trying to convince me that they really didn't want to do it, their attitude changed, I even had their team leader tell me, "if I didn't phone for a nurse by 10am, it was likely we would have to wait till out of hours, after 6:30pm.. That's when I lost it and told them their fortune.

Anyway, since then, they come every day without getting a phone call, and the team leader has done everything in her power to get things moving, but she was ignored.

You really couldn't make it up! So, as you can imagine, we are sooo hoping it goes ahead on time and is successful. 👍
