That's what I made it. Still struggling with the 8s.

Yes, it's a question off solving

80 - x = 3(54 - x)

The 8s problem has more than one solution.

I like these mental challenges. However there are some things that I was taught at school that I have never found a use for.... classically, who uses quadratic equations? Don't ask about differentiation as I never got what that was about. 😀 I'm now doing Nerdle on a regular basis to keep the grey cells going.... plus the usual word games.

You can use Differentiation to work out the volume of a sphere from first principles. Various areas of mathematics cropped up in my last job when I analysed gait in humans and horses.

Michael, you must be the first I've heard of using differentiation in their job. As an Architect all I used were sine, cosine and tangent tables and maybe the odd applied maths principle here and there..... much of which was superseded by CAD where you drew what you wanted and then asked the program for the information. 😀

Easiest solution is:

888 + 88 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 1000

Another way is:

((8×(8+8))-((8+8+8)/8))×8

There are other solutions as well...
