Good morning all. I'm 5 weeks post double bypass. Recovery is going ok. My wife makes sure I don't do too much. However, both before and after I've had/have this nagging left arm and shoulder pain. In the days leading up to my procedure the pain that went across both shoulders and up to my right ear n jaw line was excruciating. I took the GTN spray as advised by the nursing staff with moderate effect and that then gave me a headache. I don't know if taking the GTN spray now would that put strain on the stitches used to secure the bypass graft. Any thoughts of similar issues would be greatly received.

Post bypass arm pain
Hello
I am pleased your wife is taking good care of you
I do not think taking the GTN spray will harm you at all if you have been prescribed one
When we have a Bypass op they do have are arms stretched back and as the op is quite a long time a lot of us suffer with shoulder pain after and can go on months
I have a bad shoulder and did before my Bypass op and now 7 months later especially at night I can be in agony
I have been prescribed something called Gabapentin for pain and I do have to take it every night or I would not sleep
Maybe you could talk with your Doctor and see if the spray is needed or a stronger painkiller ?
Let us know how you get on x
Many thanks for your reply. The position the surgical team put you in whist undergoing the surgery makes perfect sense. As you say the pain is worse at night no matter what position I lie in. I take a combination of of Tramadol and Naproxen. In the morning I just don’t know what to do with my arm the pain is so bad.
I don't have my virtual follow up with the surgical consultant for another 2 weeks. Maybe I'll contact my GP practice and discuss the pain with one of the team there. Perhaps a nerve block agent may help.
Hello
It was someone that told me on here about the position you are in and when they did it explained why my shoulder was in so much pain
Without taking Gabapentin every night I would not sleep and no sleep means then you feel awful all day it has a big impact on everything
If it was me I would ask my Doctor as two weeks is a long time when you are suffering with pain
I hope you get something that works prescribed for you x
Many thanks. I'll contact my GP tomorrow and try to get a virtual meeting with whichever GP is available. It's reassuring to here other people with similar aches and pains.
Keep safe and well my friend
